Hello Resurrection Blue Springs,
Last night's evening of stories and song with singer-songwriter and now author Jenny Simmons was amazing. Mike and Olivia started off the evening with a couple of songs and then Jenny captivated us with her trio of musicians and the stories from her book The Road to Becoming. We went from laughter to tears as she shared her journey through the wilderness and reminded us that we are never alone. God is always there to guide us through those times when the way ahead is unclear and we are frightened and beaten down by life. She encouraged us to see these times in our own lives as holy seasons when the Holy Spirit is at work shaping and forming us for new life and possibilities.
As I listened to Jenny's message it dovetailed with the discussion our Bible study had held just the night before about how the Holy Spirit works in our lives. This little slice of our community attests to all the challenges we each deal with in our daily lives and how we long for assurance and clarity. Through these moments I am reminded that faith is about taking up and letting go. It is about stepping into the unknown with trust that God, through the Holy Spirit, will light a path in our darkness. It is a reminder that as a community of belieivers, there are others willing to lock arms with me and to venture into that unknown together, like Dorothy and her friends heading down the Yellow Brick Road. I am so grateful to be a part of this community growing, searching and becoming with you.
This week in worship we continuing our sermon series on Witnesses of the Cross by focusing on Mary, the mother of Jesus and John, his beloved disciple. It will be a great weekend to continue exploring the idea of the church as a community or family with a wide, all-encompassing embrace, here to help us navigate through this journey of life. As we journey through this Lenten season toward the joy of Easter, our goal is to share the message of hope as broadly as possible. To invite as many people as possible into the story of life overcoming death, light piercing darkness, and love ultimately winning it all. I hope you'll plan to join us and invite your neighbors and friends who need a companion for the journey.

Volunteer for Family Day Out – We are excited to offer our first Matthew’s Ministry event at Rez Blue Springs: Family Day Out, Sunday, March 22 (see more information below). Volunteers are needed to help provide an afternoon of fun, crafts, games and entertainment for special needs individuals and their siblings ages 10 to adult. Register here to volunteer or at Guest Services on Sunday. All volunteers will need to complete Safe Gathering training. Visit Guest Services on Sunday orrezbluesprings.org/matthews-ministry for necessary forms. Return completed forms to the church office or Guest Services by March 15. We need one volunteer for each participant as well as helpers for crafts, games and serving food/clean-up. For more information, contact Susan Anderson or Sherree Gorman.
Matthew’s Ministry Family Day Out – Sunday March 22, 12:30–3:30 pm. Resurrection’s Matthew’s Ministry offers support for special needs individuals and their families. We are excited to offer our first Family Day Out, an afternoon of fun, crafts, games and entertainment for ages 10 – adult. A light meal will be served. This gives individuals with special needs and their siblings an afternoon with their peer group and volunteer supervisors. All participating families will need to register at Guest Services on Sunday and complete a Plan of Care (visit rezbluesprings.org/matthews or stop by Guest Services) by March 15. Candy Donations and Volunteers Needed for Easter Egg Hunt Through March 22, drop off wrapped candy at our Guest Services in either entrance area. And don’t forget to mark your calendars for the Community Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 28, at 10 am. We will have a petting zoo, a variety of kid-friendly activities and crafts and, of course, an egg hunt! We’ll need extra hands for preparation ahead of time and the day of the event. Do You Want “The Scoop”? Are you new to Resurrection Blue Springs? Or perhaps you have been attending for a while and would like to get more connected. Maybe you’d like to learn more about the life of the church or meet others who are discovering Resurrection. Well it’s time to get “The Scoop.” Following the 10:45 am worship service on Sunday, March 22, we will meet for about 30 minutes in the Coffee area to chat, learn and dream! Hope to see you there.

Covenant Bible Study creates a learning experience where scripture meets everyday experience. It builds trust in others as well as confidence in scripture. And it provides an exciting new opportunity to better understand God’s call, love and unexpected favor. This in-depth Bible study explores the unique relationship God chooses to have with us. The 24-week study is divided into three 8-week segments, each exploring a different aspect of Covenant life. The second session begins April 8, and focuses on how the community lives out their Covenant in faithful love and how it’s applied to actual relationships in everyday life. A full participant guide for the class is $50, which includes all three installments, or you may purchase an 8-wk session for $20. Scholarships available. Want to Explore Life’s Big Questions? The Alpha course is an opportunity to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed, non-threatening manner over 10, thought-provoking weekly sessions. We begin with supper followed by a short talk and small groups focusing on the topic of the evening. Alpha is a place where no question is too simple or too complicated. It’s low key, friendly and fun! Wednesdays, April 8 – June 10, 6:30-8:15 pm. Register at rezbluesprings.org/alpha.
