As racially motivated violence continues this week with the murder of six Black women and three Black men at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, again we take to the streets to cry out "Black Lives Matter." We remain mindful, though, that racism is not limited to these publicized violent crimes. This is why we gather in Detroit.
Date: Friday, July 17 - Sunday, July 19
Location: Detroit, MI
Venue: St. Peter's Episcopal Church
Lodging: Corktown Hotel
Cost: $199 with Lodging/$169 without, $99 Student/Low-Income Rate
A tour through the streets of Detroit reveals this once beautiful home that is now one of 82,000 vacant houses in the city.
Executive Director Sarah Thompson shares about the potential for intentional communities to foster a more sustainable community at the International Social Movements Gathering for Affordable Water and Housing.
In 2014, more than 35,000 Detroit households--an estimated 96,000 individuals--lost water service due to nonpayment.
Between 17,000 and 18,000 Detroit households remain without water.
The Water and Sewage Department continue to shutoff water to residents despite the city council's resolution calling for a moratorium on shutoffs. We all have the human and sacred duty to live in right relationship with the water and the earth. We are pledged to do all that we can to non-violently stop the shutoffs, restore service, and implement the water affordability plan. Come and renew your commitment to faithful peacemaking by joining us in the struggle for a more sustainable and just Detroit.
Don't delay, register TODAY!
