Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek - Friday, 12 June 2015 - The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown of Kansas, City, Missouri, United States

Friday, June 12, 2015,
Greetings RezDowntowners,
I hope this message finds you doing well this Friday morning. Wendy and I are still waiting for our due date and the arrival of our little guy, but in the midst of waiting we have had a good week of getting back into the swing of things in downtown Kansas City. After spending a lot of time at our Leawood Campus these past two weeks, I was ready to get back downtown. I love opportunities to preach and lead, but I have missed worshiping with you and seeing you at Resurrection Downtown. Please know that I have been praying for you in my absence and that I am excited to see you this weekend as we continue our series on God and Baseball at Resurrection Downtown. I hope you’ll join me in worship this weekend on both Saturday and Sunday as we continue our look at the importance of team with a tip of the cap!
Additionally, this coming week is going to be extraordinary! I am so excited to be hosting our second-ever Vacation Bible Camp! This year’s theme is going to be Disciple Me (based off of Despicable Me) and it is going to be a great and holy adventure. I’m excited to be able to spend time with so many of our Resurrection kids as they adventure through the knowledge and love of God in a great community! We’ll be sure to have tons of fun. To sign up, look below and be sure to register! We also have some remaining volunteer needs as well.
In the meantime, here are several ways to get connected to the life of our church over the coming weeks:
Vacation Bible Camp Begins Next Week: 6/15-18 (5:30 to 8:30pm at 1522 McGee)
Can you volunteer for Vacation Bible Camp: We need 6 more volunteers!
New Artwork in the McGee Sanctuary – Joel Hopler of Hopler Art.
The National Worship Leader Conference: Volunteer and enjoy some great concerts!
Small Groups Are Forming: Interested in becoming a part of one?

Vacation Bible Camp Begins Next Week! June 15-18, 5:30-8:30 pm, 1522 McGee. This year’s theme is Disciple Me! Based off of Despicable Me and we will be having a blast! Instead of Minions there will be a whole bunch of Finions eating dinner each night, wearing camp T-shirts, doing crafts, eating snacks, music and so much more. VBC is for children age 3 (as of Sept. 1, 2014) through current 5th grade. Younger children may attend, but only with an adult who is volunteering with VBC. To volunteer or to register your child, visit rezdowntown.org/vbc or contact Bailey Amtower at baileyew@gmail.com.
Vacation Bible Camp – Our Kids Need You This Week! June 15-18, 5:30-8:30 pm. Could you volunteer and be one of 6 additional people needed to help with recreation and crafts and to be Finion mentors? We will have everything you need. Your help would make a huge difference in the life of each child. Come have fun with our kids! To volunteer, contact Kris.Drummond@cor.org.
The National Worship Leader Conference hosted at our Leawood Campus June 22-25 needs volunteers from all campuses! Serve on the hospitality team to welcome more than 1200 worship leaders from all over the U.S., or help with the café, conference meals, beverages, greeting, giving directions, CD sales, ushering and more. Day and evening positions available. Volunteers can stay to enjoy the evening concerts. For more information and to sign up to volunteer, visitcor.org/worshipconference.
Notice the New Artwork in the McGee Sanctuary? – Local artist and friend of Justin Huey (worship leader), Joel Hopler of Hopler Art, says he is inspired by his recent move to Kansas City. He created this series based on his initial impressions of the people and places, as well as the vibe from the city as a whole. The “animal series” is a representation of both the close interactions and passer-by connections he has experienced. The abstract pieces are an effort to look into the spiritual connections with both the people and the physical landscape. Contact the artist atjoel@hoplerart.com or 704-433-2352.
Word’s Out: There Are Small Groups Meeting! It’s true and it’s not a secret, but it is a wonderful, delicate process. After regularly attending worship, volunteering and being a part of classes or events, many folks want to go deeper in their faith. They tend to want to accomplish this alongside a group of like-minded people who they “do life” with and are able to grow spiritually together. If you are ready for this more in-depth, devoted small group experience, go torezdowntown.org/grouplife and complete the form. Kelly Sisney will be working on finding you the perfect spot; though it can sometimes take a while, it’s important to get a group that works best for you! For any questions, contact Kelly.Sisney@cor.org.
