Pastor Penny Ellwood's eNote: for Friday, 30 October 2015 at The Resurrection United Methodist Church in Blue Springs, Missouri, United States
Take a quick look at what's coming up:
Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
Our Blue Springs mission team made it to Musgokee, Oklahoma last night and we're watching a beautiful sunrise as we head to Antlers this morning. We're headed to a campground in the southwest region of the Oklahoma Indian Mission Conference (OIMC) where we'll be working on a cabin. Our team will be adding to the work another mission team started by putting a handicap ramp on the outside of one of the cabins and a floor in one of the kitchens, as well as doing some painting. I, obviously, will be painting. This campground will be host to the OIMC Annual conference in 2017. The OIMC includes 80 Indian Methodist Churches. This conference works alongside the Oklahoma Methodist Conference.
We're working to develop partnerships within the OIMC.
We'll work in Antlers today and tomorrow on this project then head to Hartshorne Sunday to attend church at Grace Indian UMC. After lunch we'll take part in Kids Funday, a program of Grace, which serves the students of Jones Academy. Jones Academy is a boarding school run by the Choctaw Nation for 200+ Indian students from 1st - 12th grades from 35 different states. Each month 30 of the elementary students come to the church for Bible study, crafts, recreation and a science lesson. Birthdays are always celebrated too. The academy is not associated with a church. Grace has about 11 active members who all take part to make this program happen. We'll be meeting with the Pastor, who serves two charges in the area, and his wife, who works at the academy, to explore ways we might support their ministry efforts.
While I won't be in worship Sunday, you won't want to miss it. We’ll be welcoming the Rev. Dr. James Forbes. He is a highly acclaimed author, scholar and nationally sought-after speaker, affectionately referred to in national and international religious circles as the preacher’s preacher because of his extensive preaching career and his charismatic style. Newsweek magazine once recognized Forbes as one of the 12 “most effective preachers” in the English-speaking world. He is going to be great! I hope you’ll invite friends to join us in worship this Sunday. Be sure to remember that Daylight Saving Time begins this weekend. Please set your clocks back one hour Saturday night.
  • In the meantime, here are variety of ways to get connected:

You are invited and encouraged to participate in Parent Summit 2015 as we explore and learn together! Click here to register.
