- Christmas at Resurrection
Yesterday we had a Resurrection Staff Luncheon in Leawood. It was the beginning of three weeks of celebration for our 25th Anniversary, as we remember who we are and what God has called us to do. As I listened to some of the longtime staff and Pastor Adam describe the early days of Resurrection, it sounded a lot like where we are today. As we celebrate 25 years as a church, I can’t help but dream about where our campus will be 25 years down the road. No one ever imagined that God would do the amazing things that have happened at Resurrection in the past 25 years and I believe God is ready to take us on an amazing journey too, if we have willing hearts and hands at his disposal.
As a part of this weekends celebration, we will finish our 25 days of service working toward our goal of 25,000 hours in our Give Back 25 commitment. Tomorrow is one last chance for us to add some significant hours of service with Christmas in October. The CIO program offers a unique opportunity for organizations and individuals to join together with friends and family members to make a meaningful contribution to the needy in our community, and at the same time, develop new relationships with each other and with the residents of neighborhoods they might not otherwise have reason to visit.
We’ll be heading out at 8 am for 3018 E. 26th St in KCMO. You can also join us at the worksite. Wear weather and work appropriate clothing. We’ll be doing some painting so, if you’ve got supplies to share bring them along. Come for the whole day or work a couple of hours, if that’s all you can spare. We'll finish around 3 pm. There are more details below.
This is a big day for Saturday evening we'll take a charter bus over for the big 25th celebration dinner and fireworks in Leawood. We have some travel games and prizes planned for the bus trip over. You may want to take lawn chairs to watch the fireworks display too. We'll also have a chance while we're there to place our names on one of the steel beams that will support the new sanctuary. It will be a great way to show our support and solidarity with Leawood and our other campuses. We still have plenty of room on the bus, so if you'd like to join us, we're leaving from the parking lot at 5:30 pm on Saturday.
Then this weekend in worship Pastor Adam will share a special 25th anniversary message on how we are "Called to Change the World" as we look back at some of the stories and highlights of our 25 years as a church that is changing lives, transforming communities and renewing the church. We hope you will help live out that vision by inviting someone to come worship with us! We’ll also share an update on our Give Back 25 commitment to serve. It's will be an exciting Sunday that you don't want to miss!
Take a look at what else we have coming up.
Christmas in October The Church of the Resurrection mobilizes hundreds of volunteers for Christmas in October each year to help improve the living conditions of elderly, disabled and veteran homeowners in Kansas City. Lend your hands and hearts to this worthwhile community effort Saturday, October 10. We will meet at Rez Blue Springs at 8amfor those of you that would like to carpool (which is a good idea since parking at the house will not be plentiful). For those of you that would like to go straight to the house, the location is 3018 E 26th St, KCMO (near 26th & Prospect). Bring paint tools if you have them. Wear comfortable work clothes, and your Give Back 25 shirt, if you don’t mind getting paint on it. Lunch will be provided. We should finish by around 3pm.
Resurrection to Celebrate 25th Anniversary Resurrection turned 25 on October 7! We will join in the celebration at the Leawood Campus on Saturday, October 10, for dinner, a spectacular fireworks show and other festivities. To purchase dinner visit cor.org/celebrate25 and sign up for the Saturday evening meal. We will provide bus transportation via chartered bus to the Leawood Campus from Resurrection Blue Springs and back. Bus will depart at 5:30 pm – limited seating available, email Penny.Ellwood@cor.org for the bus. You may want to bring a lawn chair along for watching the fireworks.
Remember that we are celebrating Resurrection’s 25 years with all campuses joining together to serve 25,000 hours. Be sure to take photos of you, family and friends serving and upload them to your Facebook and Instagram accounts, tag @churchoftherez and use #giveback25; or email to Donna.Karlen@cor.org.
Household and Furniture Donations Requested for FaithWork - October 17th We are partnering with My Father’s House as a collection site for donated furniture and household items for our Furnishings Ministry. A truck will be in our parking lot to drop-off items from 9-10 am on Saturday, Oct. 17th. Needing furniture, household goods, bedding, towels and kitchenware in good condition. We will also be assembling household kits for My Father’s House clients in the parking lot. We need workers to assist in loading the truck at the church and then unloading it at My Father’s House. Sign-up here.
3rd Grade Bible Presentation 2015 Each October, we continue the Methodist tradition of presenting all of our 3rd grade students with a Bible of their very own. As their faith family we are excited to provide this age appropriate Bible and our prayer is that this gift will help them go deeper in their relationship with God. The presentation ceremony will take place during 10:45 worship service on October 18. Register your 3rd grader even if they cannot attend and we’ll reserve a Bible for them.
