Psalm 1:1 How blessed are those
who reject the advice of the wicked,
don’t stand on the way of sinners
or sit where scoffers sit!
2 Their delight
is in Adonai’s Torah;
on his Torah they meditate
day and night.
3 They are like trees planted by streams —
they bear their fruit in season,
their leaves never wither,
everything they do succeeds.
4 Not so the wicked,
who are like chaff driven by the wind.
5 For this reason the wicked
won’t stand up to the judgment,
nor will sinners
at the gathering of the righteous.
6 For Adonai watches over
the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked
is doomed.
2 Timothy 3:14 But you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, recalling the people from whom you learned it; 15 and recalling too how from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which can give you the wisdom that leads to deliverance through trusting in Yeshua the Messiah. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is valuable for teaching the truth, convicting of sin, correcting faults and training in right living; 17 thus anyone who belongs to God may be fully equipped for every good work.

John Wesley's Notes-Commentary for Psalm 1
Verse 1
[1] Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
Blessed — The Hebrew words are very emphatical: O the blessedness of that man! Counsel - That doth not lead his life according to their counsel, or manner of living.
Standeth — Which notes a more settled abode in it.
Way — In their manner of conversation.
Seat — Which notes a constant and resolved perseverance in their wicked courses.
Scornful — Of those who make a mock of sin, and scoff at goodness and goodmen. Divers observe a gradation in this verse; the following clause still exceeding the former, for standing is more than walking, and sitting more than standing; and sinners in scripture use, are worse than the ungodly, and the scornful are the worst of sinners.
Verse 2
[2] But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
Day and night — Not seldom and slightly, but diligently, and constantly.
Verse 3
[3] And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
Whither — His happiness is not short and transitory, but, like those trees which are continually green and flourishing.
Verse 4
[4] The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
Ungodly — Their condition is far different.
Chaff — They are restless and unquiet: their seeming felicity, hath no firm foundation, but quickly vanishes and flees away as chaff before the wind.
Verse 5
[5] Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
Not stand — Not endure the trial.
Judgment — In the great and general judgment of the world.
Verse 6
[6] For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
Knoweth — He approves, loves, and delights in them, and therefore will recompence them.
Perish — All their designs and courses shall come to nothing, and they shall perish with them.2 Timothy 3:14-17
Verse 14
[14] But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
From whom — Even from me a teacher approved of God.
Verse 15
[15] And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
From an infant thou hast known the holy scriptures — Of the Old Testament. These only were extant when Timothy was an infant. Which are able to make thee wise unto salvation, through faith in the Messiah that was to come. How much more are the Old and New Testament together able, in God's hand, to make us more abundantly wise unto salvation! Even such a measure of present salvation as was not known before Jesus was glorified.
Verse 16
[16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
All scripture is inspired of God — The Spirit of God not only once inspired those who wrote it, but continually inspires, supernaturally assists, those that read it with earnest prayer. Hence it is so profitable for doctrine, for instruction of the ignorant, for the reproof or conviction of them that are in error or sin, for the correction or amendment of whatever is amiss, and for instructing or training up the children of God in all righteousness.
Verse 17
[17] That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
That the man of God — He that is united to and approved of God.
May be perfect — Blameless himself, and throughly furnished - By the scripture, either to teach, reprove, correct, or train up others.

Sermon Story "To Continue" by Gary Lee Parker for Sunday, 11 October 2015 with Scripture Psalm 1:1 How blessed are those

Who do you listen to? God knows that His righteous people do not listen to unrighteous people, but delight in His teachings of the law. We realize that a number of us have raised since childhood in the faith of Jesus and this a great heritage, but God calls us to continue in the faith that has been taught to us about Jesus from our family and church. Yes, there are times when we have to question the teachings to see if the teaching line up with God's law whether the teachings is about superiority of one race over another or sexual orienttion as given from God or the status of a person as a refugee or immigrant because they are escaping violence or war or poverty or about how the church has not lived up to the full inclusion of people who are differntly abled as full and active member of society and the church as lay people or clergy. Too often, we examine our teachings to see how it has not lined up with the Scriptures concerning the inclusion of all people let alone people who are differently able. This is hard to take and too often we tend to give up on the church when in actuality Jesus does not give up on His church and we should not either. We we come to this point, we realize that God is calling each generation to draw closer to Him to live out His holiness in our lives as Jesus would in the full and active inclusion of people who are differently abled. Even Paul stated in another text that there is neither Jew nor Greek nor male nor female while stating here that All Scripture has been written down from the ancient stories for His people to pursue more living in God's Holiness as He originally made His people. How do you respond to people who are different from you whether they are different color or culture or sexual orientation or refuge or immigration status or ability level? What is God speaking to you today about your past choices in this matter? How will you respond to God in what He is asking you? We come to realize that we need to receive more of God's Mercy, Grace, Holiness, and blessings as we come to eat the Body of Jesus and drink His Blood in our participation of the Holy Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. We come to receive from God singing the Hymn "Father" by Hillsong United
To bring this world to life
To heal this heart of mine
Your grace enough, your grace enough
To mend this world in need
To break the chains in me
Your grace enough, now this means love
The weight of all our sin upon His shoulders
We should all be called Your sons and daughters
Father, let heaven and earth collide
In the endless wonder of Your love upon the cross
We will follow and offer this life forever
To see Your love unfold
Adopted as Your own
Alive to make You known
Now this means love, this means love
The weight of all our sin upon His shoulders
We should all be called Your sons and daughters
Father, let heaven and earth collide
In the endless wonder of Your love upon the cross
We will follow and offer this life forever
To see Your love unfold
For the lost and for the broken
For the slave and for the orphan
For everyone to realize Your love
From the famous to the faceless
From the beggar to the king
For everyone to realize Your love
You restore the broken hearted
You bring freedom to the captive
For one and all, forever this means love
All Your children come together
All Your sons and all Your daughters
Your grace enough, forever this means love
Singing, Father, let heaven and earth collide
In the endless wonder of Your love upon the cross
We will follow and offer this life forever
To see Your love unfold
Your grace enough, forever this means love
You gave it all for one and all
Your grace enough, forever this means love
