Pastor Penny Ellwood's eNote for Friday, November 27, 2015 at The United Methodist Church of The Resurrection Blue Springs of Blue Springs, Missouri, United States

Friday, November 27, 2015
Dear Resurrection Blue Springs,
I’m sure that many of you are making your preparations to gather with family and friends tomorrow for Thanksgiving. I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels. I love this time of year when we take time to reflect on all we have to be grateful for. As our family lifts its voices tomorrow to sing together “Praise God from whom all blessings flow . .” I will be offering my prayers of thanksgiving for all of you and the blessing it is to serve within this community.
It was great yesterday to see the first of our JOY in Serving go out with the sacks of food and grocery cards for the families in our backpack ministry. Thank you for your generosity. If you haven’t stopped by the JOY table at the back of the sanctuary make sure to take a look this Sunday. There are plenty of new opportunities to bless others with need this Christmas.
Another great way to bless someone is to take a break from your shopping on Black Friday between 1-4 pm and stop by the church to donate blood. We’re hosting a Community Blood Center Drive for Sarah Tuttle Inman and Brain Cancer Awareness. The need for blood is often greater during the holiday seasons and this gift could literally save a life.
Speaking of generosity, I want to thank all of you who have returned your commitment cards! We’ve had a great response with 113 commitment cards turned in so far. If you’ve yet to turn in your commitment card, I’d like to ask you to consider going online right now to make your commitment. Simply click here to make your commitment online. Your commitments make possible the continued mission and ministry of our community.
This Sunday we begin the Advent season with a new sermon series on The Promise of Christmas. We’ll be taking a five-week journey back to Bethlehem to recall those promises spoken by the prophets, angels, wise men and shepherds. This Sunday Pastor Adam will focus on the Promise of Hope; of light piercing the darkness. We’ll also have wonderful Christmas music to sing and the advent candle lighting. The sanctuary looks beautiful thanks to all the hands that helped prepare it last Sunday after worship. Invite friends and family to join us as we celebrate the hope that is to come!
