Open Conversations Year-End Roundup
As 2015 comes to a close, we at Transform Network hope that you are blessed with days of reflection and renewal as you enter the new calendar year. It has been a profound blessing to connect with so many of you through our online classes likeWalking Wounded, the return to Wesley Seminary for the 5th Transform Network Gathering in April, the historic Faith-Rooted Organizing Training at Highlander Centerthis Fall, and the monthly Open Conversations that brought so many people together to discuss important faith and justice issues on our hearts and minds.
Visiting relatives and can’t wrestle the remote away from your cousins or need an excuse to slip away for a break? Watch or rewatch these Open Conversations from 2015! Better yet, gather the family around and watch these instead of Charlie Brown Christmas. It will surely lead to interesting conversations around the dinner table!
We’ve revisited our 2015 Open Conversations and compiled our top 3 must-see conversations just for you!
3. RACE, FAITHFUL ENGAGEMENT, AND REVOLUTIONARY LOVE
We started the year off with conversation partners Brittini Gray, Robyn Henderson-Espinoza, Bec Cranford-Smith, and Holly Roach discussing a faithful engagement of issues of race in a time of protest and revolutionary love. This is a good one to share with someone looking for an entry point into the discussion on #BlackLivesMatter and racial justice so post it on Facebook or Twitter and start a conversation among friends!
2. URBAN MINISTRY
Did you miss our Transform Network National Gathering? We hope not, but you can get just a taste of the amazingness that was at last year by checking out the Open Conversation on the challenges and joys of Urban ministry featuring Romal Tune, Aislinn Kopp, and Scott Bostic. And since you don’t you want to miss the conversation about Revolutionary Love in 2016, buy your tickets now!
1. HOW WHITE PEOPLE NEED TO TALK TO WHITE PEOPLE ABOUT RACE
By far, our most popular Open Conversation was the conversation with white anti-racist allies on how white folks can engage other white people to fight racism. Conversation partners included Chris Crass, Holly Roach, Dara Silverman, and Jake Dockter and was hosted by Micky ScottBey Jones with Scott Bostic. You probably saw it, but you might want to watch it again or send a link to someone you know who is looking for a way to thoughtfully engage discussions of race as a white ally. Consider it a thoughtful and engaging gift that keeps on giving.
