The Deaf Devo of The Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States "Weather (2)" Bible Reading: Isaiah 1:16-20 for Monday, 1 August 2016Isaiah 1:16 “Wash yourselves clean!
Get your evil deeds out of my sight!
Stop doing evil, 17 learn to do good!
Seek justice, relieve the oppressed,
defend orphans, plead for the widow.
18 “Come now,” says Adonai,
“let’s talk this over together.
Even if your sins are like scarlet,
they will be white as snow;
even if they are red as crimson,
they will be like wool.
19 If you are willing and obedient,
you will eat the good of the land;
20 but if you refuse and rebel,
you will be eaten by the sword”;
for the mouth of Adonai has spoken.
-------I used to live in upstate New York where we would get about 100 inches of snow in winter. It was exciting to wake up in the morning and see the ground covered with pure white snow!
In our Bible Reading today, the prophet Isaiah gave the Israelites a message from God. In the first part of this chapter, Isaiah warned them about the bad things they had been doing. But in verse 16 he told them what they should do: "Stop doing the evil things I see you do. Stop doing wrong."
Sometimes it is hard for us to be close to God. We think that our sins are so bad that God could never forgive us. But here is what God told the Israelites: "Even if your sins are as dark as red dye, that stain can be removed and you will be as pure as wool that is as white as snow" (verse 18b).
When we ask God to forgive us and we follow His plan, He removes our sins and makes us "white as snow." Ask God to forgive you and help you obey Him today.[JK]
"But if we confess our sins, God will forgive us...He will make us clean from all the wrong things we have done."[1 John 1:9]
PRAYER: Father, forgive me and make me clean again. In Jesus' name. Amen.
