It is great to be writing you today as I'm back in town after spending some time away with my family, and I'm so excited because this is going to be a HUGE weekend for our church. This weekend we are celebrating and praying for our RezDT mission team who departed for Malawi yesterday. For the next 10 days they'll be serving and training pastors and leaders in our partner churches and their surrounding communities. In addition to our team, we also sent several members of our church who are doctors and nurses and they'll be leading a medical mission at the same time. You can follow their progress by visiting their travel blog here.
This weekend is going to be packed! It all starts tomorrow morning at 9am, with our second installment of our summer Vacation Bible Camp. We still have plenty of room for Vacation Bible Camp Kids as well as volunteers! Join in the fun tomorrow morning at 9 am. We're meeting at Margret Kemp Park, located directly across from reStart Inc. (918 E. 9th St., KCMO 64106) in downtown Kansas City. All school-aged kids are invited to participate in crafts, games, learning time and music! If you are interested in volunteering, we would love to have you join us in that capacity as well. Contact Sarah.Brischle@cor.org to sign up, volunteer, or for more information!
In addition to VBC, we are opening up the church's doors (1522 McGee) at 9am on Saturday morning for our July Faithwork. If you want to serve out in the community we'll have a variety of projects available for you to participate in there. This month's projects range from painting, serving meals, cleaning up neighborhoods or playing with kids. Please invite a friend, family member, co-worker, or even someone you just met at church to join us on our journey to know, love and serve God, all you need are work clothes and a willing heart to participate! Visit cor.org/downtown/faithwork for more information or just show up at 9am.
Finally, tomorrow afternoon, I am so excited to share that we're celebrating perhaps one of the most powerful moments in our life of faith with some of the most amazing people I know. I want to invite you to join Pastor Darryl Burton, Pastor Adam Hamilton and I as we host a great baptismal celebration event with Healing House. We're going to gather and celebrate this Saturday from 11 am – 1 pm, as over 70 people (from RezDT and the Healing House) wade through the waters of baptism in the Healing House pool! Glory Revival will be there to add amazing worship music to the event. If you have not been baptized and would like to be a part of this special afternoon, contact Shannon.Endicott@cor.org.
This is going to be a huge weekend and I can't wait to share in service and sacrament with you on Saturday, and then again in every worship service all weekend long. We're starting a new sermon series highlighting the Gospel in Film. This weekend we're kicking off this series by focusing on one of my favorite movies, Star Wars: Rogue One. Pastor Adam will be preaching this weekend and I hope you'll join us in taking a look at this instant classic in a way that uncovers the Gospel!
In the meantime, you'll find a variety of ways below to get connected over the next several weeks. Be sure to take a look...Back to School Supply Drive! Wendell Phillips at Attucks Elementary’s 370 students will return to the classroom on August 14! Your donation of school supplies, incentive store items, books, and volunteer hours gives students a jump start into the new school year. Pick up empty bags from the sanctuary starting July 22, fill them with items from a speficied list, and return them to the church by August 6. Contact Pastor Patrick or Ginna Beckett at rezdtserve@cor.org with inquiries about more ways to get involved.
RezDads – Next Saturday is the 4th Saturday of the month – meet us in North Kansas City at Dagg Park’s splash park area, at 9 am, July 22. Bring your little guys and gals, and don’t forget your swim suits! Make sure to get the word out to other dads. Reach out to Clay.Smith10@gmail.com with questions!
40 and UP Gathering – Please join us after the 5:10 pm service on Saturday, July 22, as we walk over to Thou Mayest Coffee Roasters (419 E. 18th St., Kansas City, MO). From 6:30–7:30 pm, this new fellowship group will enjoy conversation, coffee and possibly board games. Stay for a few minutes or the full hour. Look for a more formal kick-off event this fall. In the meantime, mark your calendars for the fourth Saturday of each month! For more information, email Tara.Ramsey@hotmail.com.
