Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II from Groundsville of Auburn Theological Seminary in New York, New York, United States for Saturday, 26 August 2017 "What should we do about white supremacy after Charlottesville?"

I write to you from Louisville, Kentucky, where we’ve just finished a moral leadership training and mass meeting for the Poor People’s Campaign. Earlier this week, we were in Topeka, Kansas—and the week before that, Albuquerque, New Mexico.
In every place we’ve visited since August 12th, people have been asking the same question: what should we do about white supremacy after Charlottesville?
We who believe in justice and love know that we cannot turn away from the violent attack by Klan, Nazi and white nationalist groups. We will not fight hate with hate, but we will never give in to intimidation because we have seen through the lie of white supremacy. We know it is not only an attack on non-white people, but also an empty promise for those who embrace it. We must revive the heart of our democracy in America by building a new Poor People’s Campaign & National Moral Revival for all people.
This is why we’ve responded to an invitation from local clergy in Charlottesville and are going there to stand with them this weekend. We are standing together to make clear that we will unite around a moral agenda that is the opposite of the white nationalist agenda.
On Saturday evening, August 26th, at 7 p.m., we will stand with Charlottesville clergy as they host a Love Over Fear Call to Conscience. (Please register here if you would like to attend.) You can watch the worship service and press conference live at www.breachrepairers.org/livestream.
On Sunday evening, August 27th, at 5 p.m., Repairers of the Breach will host Forum for the Nation: A Public Conversation on Democracy & White Supremacy. Live from Charlottesville, we invite your community to hear from some of the best scholars in the country on white nationalism, the role of Confederate monuments in American public life, and the need to move from the statues to the statutes as we address the white supremacy, which is written into our public policy. We invite you to host a public viewing and conversation in your community. Livestream will be available at www.breachrepairers.org/livestream.
Hope you can join us as we trust love over fear this weekend,
Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II
