My doctor took my hand and said, "Mrs. Howard, I am sorry to tell you this. You have cancer." I was stunned. Questions raced through my mind. Would I suffer? Would I lose my hair? Would I die?
When I got home, I searched in my Bible for words that would give me peace. Then I read 2 Timothy 1:7, "The Spirit God gave us does not make us afraid. He is the source of power and love and self-control." That verse helped me understand that my fears were coming from the devil. I believed God had a plan for my life and that He would make His plan happen.
My fears went away, and God filled me with His peace. God has blessed me and I have been free of cancer for almost eighteen years. Our Bible verses for today remind me that God's peace will be with me and guard me. Because of that, I am no longer afraid.
Are you afraid of something today? God's Word will give you comfort and peace!
"And because you belong to Jesus Christ, God's peace will stand guard over all your thoughts and feelings." [Philippians 4:7a]
PRAYER: Father, thank You for Your precious Word that gives me peace. In Jesus' name. Amen.

-------Exodus 3:1 (iv) Now Moshe was tending the sheep of Yitro his father-in-law, the priest of Midyan. Leading the flock to the far side of the desert, he came to the mountain of God, to Horev. 2 The angel of Adonai appeared to him in a fire blazing from the middle of a bush. He looked and saw that although the bush was flaming with fire, yet the bush was not being burned up. 3 Moshe said, “I’m going to go over and see this amazing sight and find out why the bush isn’t being burned up.” 4 When Adonai saw that he had gone over to see, God called to him from the middle of the bush, “Moshe! Moshe!” He answered, “Here I am.” 5 He said, “Don’t come any closer! Take your sandals off your feet, because the place where you are standing is holy ground. 6 I am the God of your father,” he continued, “the God of Avraham, the God of Yitz’chak and the God of Ya‘akov.” Moshe covered his face, because he was afraid to look at God.

I live in an area with lots of trees and bushes. Sometimes I look up at the trees, and I am impressed with how tall and strong they are. There are many bushes, too, but I hardly ever notice them.
Our Bible Reading today tells us about a bush that was burning. God wanted Moses to do something that was difficult - leading the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt. God wanted to get Moses' attention so he would listen to Him. Did God use a tall tree or a mountain that was on fire? No! God used a small bush.
But it wasn't the bush that was important. God's message was important. Moses realized that God was speaking to Him and that he was standing on holy ground. Moses paid attention to God's message and obeyed.
God speaks to us, too. He speaks to us through His Word, the Bible, and through other Christians. Be like Moses - pay attention to God and obey. [BL]
"God said, 'You can do it because I will be with you...After you lead the people out of Egypt, you will come and worship me on this mountain.'" [Exodus 3:12]
PRAYER: Lord, I am willing to serve and obey You today. In Jesus' name. Amen.
