Greetings RezDowntowners,
I hope you are enjoying an amazing Friday morning. We have had a very exciting week at RezDowntown, not just because of an amazing Women's Retreat with over 120 women gathered together to learn about vulnerablity and authenticity, but because there has been a lot of activity surrounding our new building project and the Kansas City Star Parking Lot. I want to be sure that you are in worship this weekend as we have a lot of news to share. Please do your best to make it into worship to hear our announcement. I also want you to be with us in worship, because we are two weeks away from pouring the concrete slab that will serve as our sanctuary floor. Before this happens, I want to invite you and your family to write a note of prayer and encouragement, that we'll collect in order to bury them in a time capsule directly under the sanctuary. This weekend only, we will be passing out these special notecards in worship and I want everyone to have the chance to contribute their hopes, dreams and prayers for our church and city so that they can become a part of our church's foundation. Join us for this once in a lifetime opportunity this weekend in worship.
Also, on Saturday morning we are hosting a RezDad's and RezMom's Family Movie in the sanctuary. Wind-up your summer by watching The Secret Life of Pets on the big screen...in a very unique way. Bring blankets and pillows to sit on, and we'll provide all of the snacks! It is going to be a great morning to watch an awesome movie as one big church family. For questions, contact Sarah.Brischle@cor.org.
Lastly, we have posted two new videos on our Facebook page, one is a promotional video that invites people to join us in worship at both of our locations on Saturday and Sundays. The other is the most recent video building update. Be sure to like us on Facebook if you haven't already. Also, be sure to share these videos as a way of living into our call to fish for people.
In the meantime, you'll find a variety of ways below to get connected over the next several weeks. Be sure to take a look...
Disciple 1: 24 Week Bible Study. Join us on Monday nights, starting September 11th to study the Scriptures. Disciple 1 is a course that provides a foundational overview of the Bible. Beginning with Genesis and continuing through Revelation, group members will read approximately 80% of the Bible in this 24 week study. Disciple Bible Study is enriching, informational, transformational, faith deepening and offers time to develop deep lasting friendships as you study, reflect and pray together as a group. Please register at cor.org/getconnected. For questions contact Matt Bisel at matt.bisel@cor.org
Cultural Awareness Training Class. On Sunday August 27, 1:00 pm, join pastors, community leaders and volunteers as we learn ways to have transformative relationships with people we may not usually encounter. We require this training every few years for anyone desiring to tutor with our Kansas City public school partners, however training is not limited to those who wish to become tutors. In the end, you’ll learn about a multitude of service opportunities where you can put your sharpened skills to good use. To register go to cor.org/downtown/getconnected. For questions, contact Patrick.McLaughlin@cor.org.
Good and Beautiful God Book Study: Join Pastor Anne Williams, Thursdays starting September 7th, 6:30-8pm at 1508 Grand, for a 3-week study through the book Good and Beautiful God. Author James Bryan Smith believes that people can genuinely be transformed when we stop believing things that aren't true about God and start trusting the truth that God is nothing but good and gracious. In his book, he invites us to practice certain exercises that allow us to see the world the way Jesus did, and be transformed into apprentices of the Jesus way of life. To register go to cor.org/downtown/getconnected. For questions email anne.williams@cor.org
Have a great Friday! I am excited for this weekend in worship.
Many blessings and God's Peace,
Scott
