PRAY FOR:
GLOBAL MINISTRY REQUESTS
Nepal Earthquake
On April 25, a massive earthquake hit the country of Nepal. As of this writing, it is thought that the death toll could reach 10,000. The nearby countries of India and China also suffered loss of lives and property. Survivors are suffering as they grieve the death of loved ones, loss of homes and livelihoods; food, water and other essentials are running short. The Church of the Nazarene through Compassionate Ministries (NCM) is responding along with other humanitarian organizations. Your prayers for the people affected by the April 25 quake are needed.
Prayer Notes for Nepal—There is a form on ncm.org/nepal for people to send prayers or notes of encouragement to the churches in Nepal. NCM will compile those and send them to Nazarene leadership in Nepal to share with congregations so they know their global church family is praying for them. You can find the form if you go to on ncm.org/nepal and scroll down.
NCM and Humedica—NCM is partnering with an organization called Humedica—a Christian NGO (non-government organization) in Germany that specializes in disaster aid, including medical teams. They will be partnering with local churches, including some of ours, on the ground. Joerg Eich, NCM’s coordinator for the Eurasia region, traveled with them to Nepal, and they are all staying at the NCM center, which did not sustain much damage in the earthquake. Another plane full of additional medical and relief aid resources is on the way. Pray that these supplies get to the people in need quickly.
Nepal Leadership and Work on the Ground—Joerg is on the ground working with Dilli, the district superintendent in Nepal, and Padam, the NCM coordinator there. They know that one church building near the epicenter was badly damaged and are still working to get news from outlying areas to hear how Nazarenes have been affected. Communication lines are down, and most organizations are having trouble getting information from the rural communities. Many roads have also been destroyed and rural areas can’t be reached, so communication may come slowly and prayers will be needed for all those in Nepal working to access rural areas to provide assistance.
Nazarene Work in Nepal—In addition to the 300+ churches and church plants (with more than 8,000 members) in Nepal, NCM supports 13 child development centers (CDCs) that serve 1,275 children in Nepal, and 4 of the CDCs are in the Kathmandu area. They are working to get updates on the children and will let people, particularly child sponsors, know any information as soon as possible.
Please continue to pray for our churches and leaders and the many children, families, and communities affected by this tragedy. And please continue to share opportunities to support the Nazarene church’s efforts through ncm.org/nepal.Check PML’s Facebook page - facebook.com/NMIPrayer - for other requests that will be posted between now and the next edition of PML.
