Today's Devotional: The Upper Room Daily Devotion "Speaking Forth God" for Wednesday, 29 April 2015 - Scripture: John 20:30 In the presence of the talmidim Yeshua performed many other miracles which have not been recorded in this book. 31 But these which have been recorded are here so that you may trust that Yeshua is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by this trust you may have life because of who he is.
21:25 But there are also many other things Yeshua did; and if they were all to be recorded, I don’t think the whole world could contain the books that would have to be written!
Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the Lord.[Psalm 102:18 (NIV)]
One of the joys of The Upper Room is being able to read the experiences of people worldwide and their encounters with God. We’re united in our love of God and the world God created as we share our thoughts together. I imagine people reading The Upper Room as they wake up each morning or go to bed at night, creating a continual outpouring of prayer and praise to God through the different time zones of the world.
When I consider that the psalmist’s words are being read thousands of years after his death and think about the impact they have had on so many people, I wonder how what we produce might affect the next generation. All of us who love God and follow Jesus have something we can write about or speak about or sing about. Our words can help others to know and love God, too. We do it not for our own glory but for God’s — for the sake of those not yet born.
The apostle John reckoned that the whole world couldn’t hold the books that could be written to chronicle all that Jesus did while here on earth. And Christ is still working in the world. Our stories and songs proclaim this good news every day.
