Trinity United Methodist Church of Gainesville, Florida, United States "Tuesday Word" Tuesday, 28 April 2015
Worship: Sundays @ 8:15 am, 9:40 am, 11:00 am | Wednesdays @ 6:35 pm | Fridays @ 7:00 pm
Dear Friends,
Next to me on our flight to Virginia was a family from Tibet; I wondered if they knew people from neighboring Nepal where the Earthquake had just hit. A family in our church were once missionaries in Nepal, lived in Katmandu; I'm eager to talk with them as I'm sure they have dear friends in the midst of that devastation from the earthquake. Oh my! Our Missions Director, Ted, has concurred that we make NEXT Sunday's (May 10) Mission Box for Relief Aid for the Earthquake victims; UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) is already there, and we will be helping through them. (THIS Sunday's Mission Box will stay as planned for Vacation Bible School).
Our prayers go out for those in Nepal, as they also go out for the people of Baltimore; the ripples of hurt, misunderstanding and violence are so tragic at all levels. Praying for all who "stand in the gap" and bring aid and help and healing.
Closer to home, in our Trinity family, one of our beloved, long time members, Mrs. Alyce Boyd, passed into life eternal yesterday. Her next birthday would have been her 98th! Alyce was a champion of Trinity, especially during the early capital campaigns to purchase our 67 acres, then to build the first buildings, and, oh my goodness, for that opening banquet in the worship center as we transitioned from 8th avenue to 53rd. She moved always with style and grace, and imparted that spirit of "can do" in the DNA of Trinity. I wish all of you could have known Alyce, and all the early pilgrims who helped make possible the wonders we enjoy today. As always, it's important we never forget from whence we came. Alyce's service celebrating her life will be early next week.
The three stories above remind us just how precious life is; don't take it for granted, extend love and kindness and understanding to those around you, and aid to those far away who are in need.
Love and prayers, Dan
