Pastor Jason Gant for Friday, October 2, 2015  Weekly eNote from The Resurrection United Methodist Church in Olathe, Kansas, United States

Resurrection West,
This Sunday will be a unique day in worship as we move through four lessons of scripture and song in a sermon entitled “To God Be The Glory” named after the powerful piece of music that will conclude each worship service. Our own Diane Robertson will be joining me as our musical lead for the day, along with her accompanist, as we take a journey through word and song, beginning with the Old Testament prophets, into the Gospel stories of Jesus, and visions cast in the letters of the Apostles. We will also share in Holy Communion!
We will sing great classic hymnody (including the Lord’s prayer that Diane is well known for) as we offer praise, prayer, and also dream forward into the future of our building expansion. The building committee finalized the budget just this week and we instructed our architects and contractors to begin construction documents. This is awesome and means that we will be announcing our groundbreaking date on Sunday! I will also have the latest visual renderings of phase 2 to share. This will be a great day of celebration and joy as we dream forward, celebrating our heritage in word and song!
Here is a little about Diane.
"She is a classical lyric soprano, a comedic actress (stage and television) and the owner/producer of the theatre company, Sonlight Productions in which she incorporates her faith. She has performed in several large Kansas City theatres as well as performing the national anthem for baseball stadiums in TX, CA, MO. Diane has completed her 5th season as a co-host of the witty family travel television show, “Just Down the Road.” (justdowntheroad.net). Diane is a trained Congregational Care Minister with the Silver Link Ministry at the Church of the Resurrection where she has been a member since 1997. She specializes in dementia and Alzheimers patients and sings to actively dying patients with both Continua Hospice and Catholic Charities Hospice. She is also wife to Dave Robertson, our Director of Community Life, here at West."
This Sunday we will also have a table to find out more about serving on a church-wide committee. The United Methodist Church is a lay-led church and committees conduct the business of the church. They make decisions about staff policy, financials, programs and ministries. Each year we are looking for committed members to serve on our committees, demographic, etc. to create a diverse representation to lead us forward toward our vision of changing lives, transforming communities, and renewing the church. Stop by the table following Sunday to explore more about this opportunity to serve. More info at cor.org/committees
We have had some staff transitions over the last few months and I wanted to give you an updated list of our staff team here at West. Finally, it has been a spirit-filled week as we’ve hosted some 1800 pastors and ministry leaders from all around the country and the world at Leadership Institute. Some of the members of the very first church I ever served as a youth director - First UMC of Ft. Pierce, Florida - are here participating. I hadn't seen them since 1995, so it was quite a reunion moment reconnecting with people that helped set me on the path of my pastoral call. Thank you Lord for those people in our lives who invest, mentor, and encourage us as we heed your call. I’ve got to run since I’m due to give the welcome and opening prayer this morning at Leadership Institute. See you Sunday as we look back, dream forward, and in it all to God be the glory!
Looking forward to worshiping with you Sunday,
Pastor Jason
