My heart was touched this week to learn that a team of six from the church were able to give time on Monday to complete the project we started for Christmas in October last week. I am grateful for the ever growing number from our community that are setting aside their time and reaching out to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Being a Christian doesn't require perfection but it does require us to strive to live as Jesus invites us to live and that means working diligently to close the gap between what is and what should be in light of God's kingdom ideals and the gospel message. We believe that the Kansas City area should look more like the kingdom of God as we live out our call as disciples. This doesn't happen by accident. It takes proactive intentionality. This is what led Todd Rock to organize this team to complete our work this week. I am grateful to him and the crew and to the others of you that I watch each week quietly and faithfully serving. You inspire me!
This Sunday we have another fun opportunity to reach out to our neighbors with the love of Christ. We are hosting our annual Trunk and Treat from 4- 6 pm. We've invited our community to bring their children out to experience a safe and fun way to celebrate Halloween. We've invited you to decorate your trunks and bring them up to hand out candy. We'll also have a bounce house, photo booth, cupcake walk and other games for the children to participate in and be serving hot dogs. We could also use cupcakes, hands for the games and more trunks so come on up at 3:30 pm if you'd like to participate in this activity. If you've got children or grandchildren, have them put on their costumes, invite their friends and join us for the fun.
This Sunday we'll be concluding our Changing the World sermon series as we look back at how God has worked through our first 25 years as a church to "do justice and love kindness" - transforming communities all over the world. We'll also be dreaming about where we might go moving forward. We hope you will invite someone to come worship at Resurrection!
