Greetings RezDowntowners,
I just love waking up on these crisp Fall mornings. This is perhaps my favorite season of the year and not just because of the weather. This weekend we have been hosting about 2000 church pastors and leaders from across the country for Leadership Institute. As a part of this gathering we hosted a worship night with Glory Revival, and I have to tell you that I have never seen the sanctuary so full! People started arriving at 5:30pm for a 7:00pm start, and we were packed by the time the doors opened. It was an awesome sight to see, as people from all over the place filled our sanctuary worshiping and singing songs of praise with all of our volunteers. It was awesome. Thank you to all of you who came out to join us. Then just yesterday our staff team hosted two sessions entitled, Creating a Culture of Invitation, where we shared a good portion of our story over the past five years. It is always great whenever we have a chance to remember all the things that God has done in order to make us who we are today, and then to think about where God is leading us into the future...my heart has been so full of joy. Please know how privileged I am to be serving as pastor of this community with you!
This weekend will be another big weekend. We are hosting our 25th Anniversary FaithWorkSaturday. It is going to be one of our biggest FaithWorks ever. We are hoping for a capacity crowd 250 people in order to give back 25,000 hours of service. So, invite friends and join us at the church by 9am on Saturday morning as we head out into the community to serve. We will have lots of projects for children as well, so mom’s and dad’s bring your kids out for a Saturday morning of service in the city!
Lastly, I am going to be preaching live at Resurrection Downtown this weekend on the three most important words for the church. It will be fun to be able to preach and be present with you this weekend as we take a moment to remember our call and charge to change the world.

Discover why lessons from the life and works of Methodism’s founder, John Wesley, are critically important to us and our church today. Pastor Scott will be sharing stories and insights from his own actual journey to England where he retraced the steps of John Wesley. The Revival book will be needed and can be purchased before the study that evening for $8 with cash or a check made payable to COR. For more information, visit rezdowntown.org/revivalstudy.

Join us for coffee and to hear this inspiring story. For more information, please visit here
A Disciple’s Path Study will begin Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 7 pm at 1508 Grand, Rm. 110. Are you at a point where you are ready to grow in your faith and learn how to authentically live it out? Are you curious what it means that Resurrection is a United Methodist Church? Come be a part of this class where you will grow to understand God’s love and grace with the time-tested practices of prayer, presence, gifts, service and witness, as well as learn what it means to be a United Methodist. Two books are required, total cost is $20, scholarships available. Class size is limited! For questions, contact David Sisney at dsisney@sbcglobal.net. To register, go torezdowntown.org/disciplespath.
It is 3rd Grade Bible Presentation time for 2015!!! On Sunday, October 18 at the 9 amservice, we will continue the Methodist tradition of presenting all 3rd grade students with a Bible of their very own. As members of their faith family, we are excited to provide this age appropriate Bible and our prayer is that this gift will help them take their next steps in their relationship with God. This is faith milestone and a great opportunity to communicate to our children the importance of God’s Word in their life. We want to personalize the Bibles for each student, as Pastor Scott will write each of them a personal message in their Bible. Registration is required but there is no fee. You MUST register your child to receive a Bible by emailing Sarah.Brischle@cor.org with your child’s name; even if you are unable to attend on October 18.
Committee Nominations Underway for The Church of the Resurrection – The following committees that meet at Leawood are seeking candidates to serve beginning in 2016: Finance, Trustees, Staff Parish Relations, Foundation, Nominations and Lay Delegates to Annual Conference. In order to be on these committees, you must be a member of The Church of the Resurrection for at least 3 years. You can refer someone you know, or indicate your interest in serving by completing an Online Interest Form by Sunday, October 18, at cor.org/committees.
I am so excited to spend this weekend with you in service and in worship. I hope you'll invite friends and join us for what is shaping up to be a great weekend in the city!
Grace and Peace,
Scott
