A prayer by Bishop Mike Lowry of the Central Texas Annual Conference, leading the United Methodist Church in “Praying Our Way Forward” for the week of January 28 – February 3, 2018.
Lord God, great are you and greatly to be praised! We bow in awe and gratitude of the immense love that comes to us in the form of a baby and reaches out for us in the pain of the cross. Hear us pray, the prayers of our hearts and minds that come as a deeper groaning of our adoration and aspiration to be truly faithful in discipleship to you as our Lord and Savior.
We ask that you who move in the person and work of Jesus Christ might be known by us through the ever present guiding of the Holy Spirit. Love and lead, enable and encourage, provide and provoke us to be faithful in the mission you place before us as a United Methodist Church – “to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”
Receive now we pray our petition of divine guidance for the Commission on the Way Forward and the Council of Bishops of the United Methodist Church. May their deliberations be imbued with your desire, your wisdom and your love over and above our personal preferences and positions. We pray that as a church we may receive their work so that, under the relentless love of the Holy Spirit, our response reflects your best intentions. May thy kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.
