Scripture Test to Read: John 20:1 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Miryam from Magdala went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. 2 So she came running to Shim‘on Kefa and the other talmid, the one Yeshua loved, and said to them, “They’ve taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they’ve put him!”
3 Then Kefa and the other talmid started for the tomb. 4 They both ran, but the other talmid outran Kefa and reached the tomb first. 5 Stooping down, he saw the linen burial-sheets lying there but did not go in. 6 Then, following him, Shim‘on Kefa arrived, entered the tomb and saw the burial-sheets lying there, 7 also the cloth that had been around his head, lying not with the sheets but in a separate place and still folded up. 8 Then the other talmid, who had arrived at the tomb first, also went in; he saw, and he trusted.
John Wesley's Notes-Commentary for John 20:1-8
Verse 3
[3] Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.
Peter went out — Of the city.
Verse 6
[6] Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,
Peter seeth the linen clothes lie — and the napkin folded up - The angels who ministered to him when he rose, undoubtedly folded up the napkin and linen clothes.
Verse 8
[8] Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.
He saw — That the body was not there, and believed - That they had taken it away as Mary said.

Sermon Story Outline "The Promise Fulfilled" for Sunday, 5 April 2015 with Scripture John 20:1 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Miryam from Magdala went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. 2 So she came running to Shim‘on Kefa and the other talmid, the one Yeshua loved, and said to them, “They’ve taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they’ve put him!”

we were scared, but the women gathered spices and on the day after Shabbat they went to the grave where they saw that Jesus was buried. They shared
As I sit here in the synagogue, I listen to the Tanakh being read from the Scrolls as is always the case every Shabbat, but this time is different. As I hear the prophetic writings being read, my mind goes back to when the women came back from the tomb saying that Jesus is not dead, but alive. It was hard to believe, but remembering the words of the women, especially Mary Magdalene, she shared about walking to the tomb with the spices and ointment they prepared the day before the Passover Shabbat, As they were walking in silence, they began to ask who would roll the stone from in front of the tomb away because it was too heavy for them. As they approached the tomb, they noticed that the stone was already rolled away so they entered the tomb to anoint Jesus body. They entered and found the tomb with the grave clothes of Jesus, but no body. They were scared and ran back to the Upper Room to tell us what they did not see and said that someone took the Body of Jesus and we do not know where it is. Peter and John, you know the one Jesus' loved, ran to the tomb while Mary Magdalene went back to the tomb after them. John was faster and arrived at the tomb first, but did not go in. Peter arrived and went into the tomb and examined the grave clothes that was neatly folded up with the scarf that wraped His head folded and set aside. John went in and immediately said that Jesus was right on the third day He would rise and come back to them, so they left rejoicing teling Mary Magdalene as she arrived back at the tomb they returned back to the Upper Room to share what they saw and believed about Jesus' promise to rise from the dead on the third day. Mary Magdalene approached the tomb and saw two men in shining white garments sitting on the tomb as she still was weeping. The two men were like Angels and asked Mary was she was weeping and said to her that Jesus is not here, but is risen from the dead. Mary turned at that moment and saw a man standing there that she assumed was a gardner. The man aksed Mary why she was weeping responding that someone has taken the body and Jesus and if you know where it is please tell me so I can go and get it to bring it back to give it a proper burial in the tomb He was laid in. The man called Mary by her name and she immediately fell at his feet saying Teacher. The man who is Jesus told Mary not to cling to Him because He has not yet ascended to the Father, but she is to go to His brothers and tell them to wait for Him in Galilee where they will meet them. She did and we believed, but still had doubts about His resurrection. What characters in this story do you relate to? How would you have responded if you heard a dead man was raised from the dead? How do you respond in today's generation? May we come and believe as we remember what Jesus said at the Passover Meal that this bread is His Body broken for us and this Wine is His Blood poured out for us as we come forward to partake of the Holy Eucharist singing the Hymn "He Lives" by Alfred Henry Ackley
1. I serve a risen Savior
  He’s in the world today.
I know that He is living,
  Whatever men may say.
I see His hand of mercy;
  I hear His voice of cheer;
And just the time I need Him
  He’s always near.
Refrain:
  He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way.
He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives?
    He lives within my heart.
2. In all the world around me
  I see His loving care,
And though my heart grows weary,
  I never will despair;
I know that He is leading,
  Through all the stormy blast;
The day of His appearing
  Will come at last.
Refrain:
  He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way.
He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives?
    He lives within my heart.
3. Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian,
  Lift up your voice and sing
Eternal hallelujahs
  To Jesus Christ the King!
The Hope of all who seek Him,
  The Help of all who find,
None other is so loving,
  So good and kind.
Refrain:
  He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way.
He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives?
    He lives within my heart.
