Greetings RezDowntowners,
After an early morning breakfast with the men at Liberty Memorial, which was interrupted by hail and thunder, it became quickly apparent that it is indeed, Good Friday. Today is the day that marks the transition from that moment when Jesus gets up from the last supper with his friends and enters into the darkness of betrayal, despair and ultimately death. Good Friday gives us pause to remember Christ’s last moments, his final words, and ultimately God’s love that never leaves us but will go with us, even to the point of death on a cross. I want to invite you to our service of Tenebrae tonight at 7:00pm. Pastor Todd will be preaching and we’ll have full KidsCOR programming available. Please join us as we worship and remember the story.
And then just like that, the clouds start to break up and the sun starts to shine, and that's the story we love to celebrate on Easter. Good Friday is a day of darkness, but it is important on Good Friday to remember that the third day is coming and the worst thing is never the last thing. Even though it's Good Friday, the good news is that Easter is coming. Though we experience death and darkness today, the light that pierces darkness is on the way. This year’s Easter Celebration will be amazing! I want to invite you to join us in worship this weekend, and be sure to invite others as well. We'll be hosting worship services at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts at 9:00am or 11:00am. We are hoping to make this Easter our biggest celebration yet! We’ll have plenty of parking available in the Kauffman parking garage, but please plan to arrive early in order to get a seat!
In the meantime, here is some more information about our upcoming events:

Good Friday Tenebrae Service – Tonight at 7:00pm. (1522 McGee) Good Friday is the day the church remembers Jesus’ arrest, trial and crucifixion, and his suffering, death and burial. Resurrection Downtown will be observing Good Friday with a Service of Tenebrae (meaning ‘darkness’). Pastor Todd will be preaching, and we‘ll read the story of Jesus’ final hours while the lighting in the church is gradually diminished. We’ll have full KidsCOR programming available.
Thank you for being an Easter blessing! The generosity of Resurrection Downtown folks made it possible for hundreds of children to experience Easter through a wonderful city-wide Easter Egg Hunt on the lawn of the Liberty Memorial. We are grateful for each of you who helped us bring hope, light and love to the center of the city!
“SevenDays – Make a Ripple, Change the World” has been created to spread a message of love and embracing diversity to honor the memories of Dr. William Corporon, Reat Underwood and Teresa LaManno, who were victims of a hate crime last year. Tuesday, April 7, begins a week of themed days encouraging acts of love, serving, connecting and more, culminating in the Faith, Love & Walk, Monday, April 13. The walk begins at 5:45 pm at the Jewish Community Campus and concludes at Resurrection’s Leawood Campus. Learn more about SevenDays and register for the walk at givesevendays.org.
Singles With A Twist (SWAT) – Thursday, April 9, 6:30 pm at Quay Coffee. Join us for coffee and conversation as we discuss “Pursuing God.” After discussion and coffee, we’ll meet next door to Quay Coffee at IL Lazzarone Pizza at 7:45 pm for a time of fellowship. Feel free to come for coffee or dinner or both. For more information visit rezdowntown.org/swat or contact Dan Smith at dansmithjr@yahoo.com.
I am so blessed to be a part of this community and I am so proud to serve Christ with you in this city. I am excited to spend another season of Lent with you as together we hope for the Resurrection and the Life found at Easter. I hope you'll invite friends and join us this Holy Week as we continue building Christian community in the center of this city, until then, I hope you have a God-filled Friday and I'll look forward to seeing you soon!
Grace and Peace,
Scott
