Dear Friend,

Thank you for signing the petition Tell Politicians: Refugees fleeing violence need help, not hate. Your support is more important than ever over this holiday weekend.
Just last week, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 4038, The American "SAFE" Act, which would grind to a halt the resettlement of Syrian and Iraqi refugees. The Senate will likely vote on similar legislation on Wednesday, December 2nd, and the House will likely continue to vote on even worse legislation. Funding for refugee resettlement has also been threatened.
We are at a historic moment that will define who we are as a country: Will we turn away the most vulnerable population in their time of need? Or will we show true moral courage and leadership by welcoming them and protect them from harm?
Here’s what we can do as people of faith to lead our country to welcome the sojourner:
Please take a moment from your holiday preparation to make a call today your Senators and Representative at 1-866-961-4293 -- connecting you directly to their offices. Express your support for welcoming Syrian refugees as a person of faith.
As you gather with your family and friends this week, post a photo to your social media with your loved ones and a sign with the hashtag #RefugeesWelcome.
Sample Thanksgiving Tweet: #RefugeesWelcome this Thanksgiving in (City/State) with my family @YourSenator #Liftmylamp (Attach Photo with #RefugeesWelcome sign)
Thank you for taking action today during this pivotal time in our country’s history.
In solidarity,
Jen Smyers
Church World Service
