Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday,| June 23, 2017 - The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown in Kansas City, Missouri, United States

Hi RezDowntowners,
It has been a great week in downtown Kansas City.  After two weeks of traveling, it has been particularly nice to be here all week!  I have enjoyed getting back into a regular rhythm of life and ministry.  It was a highlight this week to watch the construction fence be moved to enclose the site for our new building, and great to see that this work has already begun!  In addition, I want to offer some encouragement as well as a reminder to everyone who pledged generously to make this project possible: thank you for your ongoing commitment, faithfulness and contributions during this important fulfillment phase.  We are through almost 14 months of our 36-month commitment period.  Your sacrificial generosity is sure to impact our city for generations to come!  Later this summer, I plan to offer a more formal update as to where we are in our process as we begin to see structural steel come into the picture.

Meanwhile, I'm excited to share some changes we are making this weekend in worship.  Given our construction progress, we are no longer able to access the Kansas City Star parking lot using the north entrance off of 16th St.  During construction, this entrance will be shut down, however, you can still access the parking lot using the south entrance off of 17th street. Please make note of this change in parking, and as you park on the south half of the KC Star Lot, please remember to pray over the site, our workers and the ways God will use that space to meet people where they are. Soak our new space with prayers before we move in!  In addition to a parking change, I am excited to share that we turned the upstairs coffee shop area back into a space for community, fellowship, coffee & ice cold water!  We know this will eliminate some of the seating we had upstairs; but given the great feedback we had after our ice cream social, we wanted to create some space for community before and after worship each weekend.  During the summer, we have room for everyone in the McGee sanctuary at most of our services, so feel free to join us in the sanctuary. If you've gotten accustomed to a more intimate gathering or worship space, I would invite you to consider our 10:45 am service at 1508 Grand – we have a live band, a live pastor to greet you, childcare, and the added bonus of donut holes for everyone. This could be a great alternative for you!

This weekend we'll continue in our series on The Stories that Changed the World by focusing on two parables that inform our understanding of how we measure success as it pertains to our finances, income, generosity, and faith.  We'll explore "the real thief that comes in the night" by looking at the parable of the Tax Collector and the Pharisee as well as the story about  the Laborers in the Vineyard.  I hope you'll join me for another look at how Jesus turns our lives Upside Down!

In the meantime, you'll find a variety of ways below to get connected over the next several weeks.  Be sure to take a look...

RezDads  – Join us this Saturday, June 24, at 1522 McGee at 9 am for community and fellowship. Please register for childcare at cor.org/downtown/getconnected. Make sure to get the word out to other dads! Email clay.smith10@gmail.com with questions.

Welcoming the Newcomers Among Us!  Join a small team of RezDowntowners getting to know one another as we joyfully extend hospitality to the refugee community in our city. Connect with others through sports activities, gardening, sewing, tutoring and more! We will gather June 29, 6 pm at 1522 McGee, to hear from a speaker with the area’s largest refugee resettlement agency. Everyone is welcome to come and learn! We will also serve together at KC’s World Refugee Day on Saturday, July 8.  Contact Pastor Patrick.Mclaughlin@cor.org to get connected!

Workshop: Learn to Craft Your Organization’s Story – RezDowntown, along with the National Storytelling Network, will host a storytelling workshop June 30 at 1508 Grand from 2 - 5 pm.  Join us for tips on technique, delivery and how to better tell the story of your organization (or an agency you volunteer with) for maximum impact. This workshop is open to everyone, but may be especially helpful for nonprofits and other agency leaders. Contact Pastor Patrick.Mclaughlin@cor.org with questions!

Travel to the Holy Land and see the places where Jesus taught his parables. On Nov. 8-17, Pastor Scott will lead this spiritual journey of a lifetime. Retrace the life and walk in the footsteps of Jesus as you visit places we read about in the Bible. Registration deadline is July 26. For more information, contact Debi.Nixon@cor.org, or visit cor.org/downtown/events.

Have a great Friday and I look forward to seeing you this weekend for worship!

Many blessings and God's Peace,
Scott
