Resurrection Blue Springs,
Greetings and Happy New Year! I’m trying to decide this morning if the cold is going to be around long enough to make it worth ordering some ice skates. I remember ice skating, nearly every winter, as a child on the pond at our local park and warming up afterwards around a fire with hot cocoa and marshmallows. This cold brings back those great memories. It’s also been the perfect opportunity to light a fire and play games around the table with our family. I hope you’ve been able to enjoy some of these benefits of the frosty weather.
With this start to a new year, many of us are thinking about resolutions and goals for 2018. As a part of those goals, I’d like to encourage you to consider how you might deepen your faith and commitment to Christ in this next year. Investing in this goal has broad implications for not only improving yourself but our community as well.
You might start off with a commitment to be in worship more frequently. How we invest our time defines who we are and who we are becoming. We have a great sermon series to start the new year. One with the potential to make us better neighbors and deepen our faith. This Sunday we begin our study of Christianity and World Religions.
We all work alongside, go to school with, live next door to, and even have family members who are of other religions. Yet, most of us have no idea what our neighbors believe or how they worship. Over the next six weeks, we will explore Christianity and four major world religions. We’ll explore where there is common ground between the faiths as well as where they differ.
We also have many smaller group options beginning in the next few weeks for ways you might grow or serve with others. There are classes to help you become a better parent, take control of your finances or gain a better understanding of our faith. You can see all the possibilities listed below.
I’m looking forward to growing and serving with you in 2018!
Grace and peace,
Pastor Penny
