LOCAL FLAVOR: PREACHING IN CONTEXT
PREACHERS FOR FALL PREACHERS CONFERENCE ANNOUNCED; CONFERENCE REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

We have finalized the list of preachers and for our third annual Preachers Conference, which will be held this fall, September 29-30, on our main campus in Kansas City, MO.
Preachers this year will be Daron Brown, Shawna Songer Gaines , Brent Hofen, Albert Hung , Javier & Annette Mondragan, Phil Stout and Althea Taylor . This line-up represents a wide range of settings, including a multi-campus church, a modern-day Mayberry, and a church in the heart of New York City. These pastors have each been asked to preach a sermon as they would in their own local context and then reflect with our panelists and audience members on why that sermon was important for their congregation to hear. Preachers and panelists will also reflect together on their local church setting, demographics, and worship style, as well as respond to questions about preparation, study habits, preaching mentors and resources used.
Going local has gained popularity around our country in a recent years: whether it is enjoying the local fare of a farm-to-table restaurant, buying local produce at a Farmer’s Market, or supporting local/small businesses in the neighborhood or city where you live, local is all the rage.
For this year’s Preachers Conference at NTS, we thought it would be exciting, as well as enriching, to work with this concept of local flavor as it applies to the vibrant and diverse expressions of our church in a variety of local contexts.

PLNU BECOMES 5TH MULTI-CAMPUS SITE
We are excited to share that beginning this summer, courses for our Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree will begin being offered on the campus of Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) in San Diego, CA. PLNU is now the 5thNazarene college or university in the United States to become a part of our Multi-Campus Seminary (MCS) program. Campuses already a part include Southern Nazarene University (Bethany, OK), Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Mount Vernon, OH), Trevecca Nazarene University (Nashville, TN), and Eastern Nazarene College (Quincy, MA). NTS is pleased to announce that beginning this summer, courses for its Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree will begin being offered on the campus of Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) in San Diego, CA.
PLNU is now the 5th Nazarene college or university in the United States to become a part of the Seminary’s Multi-Campus Seminary (MCS) Program.* Campuses already a part include Southern Nazarene University (Bethany, OK), Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Mount Vernon, OH), Trevecca Nazarene University (Nashville, TN), and Eastern Nazarene College (Quincy, MA).
“NTS is providing a great gift and opportunity to ministers in the Southwest,” shared Dr. Ron Benefiel, Dean of the School of Theology and Christian Ministry at PLNU. “By offering NTS courses on the PLNU campus (coupled with online and video conferencing options), NTS is making it possible for students to take all the coursework necessary to complete a solid NTS MDiv right here in San Diego! If students preparing for pastoral ministry are looking for a program that combines academic excellence with accessibility and affordability, this is the program they should consider.”
As a part of the MCS program, NTS residential faculty and professors on host campuses teach one-week intensive module courses that are a part of the curriculum for the NTS Master of Divinity degree. These module courses, combined with the Seminary’s roster of innovative online and video conference course offerings, make it possible for pastors to earn the MDiv without relocating from their current ministry context—and to do so in as few as 3 or 4 years.
“Our Multi-Campus Seminary program is incredibly important,” stated NTS President Dr. Carla Sunberg. “Not only does it make graduate theological education more accessible to ministers throughout the United States, but it also provides a significant way for many of our Nazarene schools to partner and more effectively serve the Church. It is exciting to be a part of such a gifted team of educators who are committed to preparing leaders for the future of our Church.”
NTS courses to be offered at PLNU over the course of the next year include the following:
Pentateuch | Taught by Brad Kelle |June 22 - 26, 2015
Core Relationships for Christian Ministry | Taught by Doug Hardy | October 19 - 23, 2015
Christian Ethics | Taught by Michael Lodahl | March 7 - 11, 2016
Gospel of Matthew | Taught by Roger Hahn | June 20 - 24, 2016

Nazarene Theological Seminary is pleased to announce Rev. Tim McPherson as the new Dean for Institutional Advancement. This is a new position for the Seminary.
“Over the last several months we have been working on a capacity building project which includes the addition of an Office of Institutional Advancement here at NTS,” shared NTS President Dr. Carla Sunberg. “Rev. Tim McPherson brings with him a passion for the institution, as well as a drive for advancement. His nearly 30 years of pastoral experience will no doubt be a huge asset as we build our Office of Institutional Advancement and increase the Seminary’s capacity to prepare more and better preachers and more effectively serve as a resource to the Church.
