Times of HOPE: A publication of Hope United Methodist Church of San Diego, California, United States for April 2015

Times of HOPE: A publication of Hope United Methodist Church of San Diego, California, United States for April 2015
Please Wear Name Tags, because we have an awesome “problem” —
Our awesome “problem” is that so many people are arriving at Hope United Methodist Church and finding a church home. That means that they see Hope UMC as the best place for them to grow in Christ, find fellowship, and united in Christ’s service in the world. It is a deep honor to welcome them, Everybody wear a name tag so your pastors and new friends can learn your name.
Everybody wear a name tag so that you can learn the names of other new people.
Everybody wear a name tag so that you can learn the name of those people you have seen for years but Write a note to the office requesting a name tag — in an e-mail or on a piece of paper. We want to Request a free name tag if you want a clip-on plastic name tag with your name inside.
Buy a name tag for $6.00 if you want a magnetic plastic name tag with the name and logo of the church. When you do this, you will bless me and many people around you!
Pastor Drew Davis is currently looking for an adult coordinator to arrange the preparation of boxes to be sent to Hope United Methodist Church members currently in college. Please email Pastor Drew (revdavis@hopeumc.com) for more information.
COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS
All Hope UMC members who will be attending college in the fall are invited to apply for scholarships awarded by the Hope UMC Foundation. These scholarships are made available annually by funds from Neighbor Center and Interfaith Community Services are nearly bare this time of year.
Back to the subject of clothes, when you do your spring cleaning, please keep in mind our friends at the Rancho Bernardo Presbyterian
Church Resale Shop, 12845 Poway Road, Poway (858) 486-5023. If you donate furniture to them, mention that you are from Hope and they will give 50% of the proceeds to our Outreach/Mission Com.
Usually in the April Times of Hope we announce the upcoming Cinco de Mayo lunch to benefit Children of Promise Orphanage in Tijuana. Not to disappoint you, we are announcing it now, but it’s going to be Sun.
June 14. Be the first to get it on your calendar and among the last to celebrate Cinco de Mayo!
Our committee meets the last Monday of each month. Come join us in reaching out to others, here and around the world, with God’s love and grace. Hope you had a Happy Easter![Terry and Larry Sieck, co-chr.]
Quartet Nouveau in Concert April 12 • 2pm
Quartet Nouveau performs the first concert of their 2015 season Sunday April 12th, 2015 at 2pm at Hope United Methodist Church. The
concert program includes Copland’s Two Pieces for String Quartet and Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 15 in A minor Op. 132. In both works the composers experiment with new forms and compositional techniques. The slow movement of Beethoven’s Op. 132 was written after recovering from an illness and is arguably one of the most
beautiful movements ever written. The concert should last about an hour and the group would love to greet the audience following the
performance. Quartet Nouveau is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to providing the San Diego community with classical music
performance and education. The members of the quartet include Kimberly Hain and Batya MacAdam-Somer on violin, Annabelle Terbetski
on viola, and Elizabeth Brown on cello. This concert is free and open to the public. For more information about the group and their upcoming concert schedule please visit:www.quartetnou-veau.org. Their next concert here at Hope is Sunday, June 7, at 2pm.

HOPE COMBINED CHOIRS AND RB PRESBYTERIAN CHANCEL CHOIR IN CONCERT MAY 17!
On behalf of the Hope Concert Series committee and the Music Ministry, you are invited to attend a free concert on Sunday, May 17, at 2pm in the sanctuary. Hope’s combined choirs of New Wine,
Voices of Hope, Yuletide, and Holy Week will join forces with the RB Presbyterian Chancel Choir in a wonderful concert conducted by two of the most popular composers/arrangers/conductors of church music today. All the music sung will be the works of these two composers, Mr. Lloyd Larson and Mr. Joseph Martin. How exciting for our choirs to not only sing their music, but to be able to sing under their direction, and also understand the inspiration behind each piece. It will be a glorious afternoon of beautiful music and many, many
voices! There will be a free-will offering and a reception to follow.
