The God Pause for Saturday, 27 May 2017 - The Lutheran Seminary in Saint Paul, Minnesota, United states - "On Our Way Rejoicing!" (ELW 537)
"On Our Way Rejoicing!"
1. On our way rejoicing
gladly let us go.
Christ our Lord has conquered;
vanquished is the foe.
Christ without, our safety;
Christ within, our joy;
who, if we be faithful,
can our hope destroy?
Refrain:
On our way rejoicing;
as we forward move,
hearken to our praises,
O blest God of love!
2. Unto God the Father
joyful songs we sing;
unto God the Savior
thankful hearts we bring;
unto God the Spirit
bow we and adore,
on our way rejoicing
now and evermore.
Refrain: On our way rejoicing;
as we forward move,
hearken to our praises,
O blest God of love!
As our time clock at Malmstrom approached four years, I knew the assignment clock was also ticking. My Chaplain School boss was now in charge of all Air Force chaplain assignments. He called me from San Antonio one day, "Keith, I'd like you to come work for me again." Now that would definitely be a step up the career ladder, almost ensuring I would make Colonel! Instead, with visions of the Northern Lights still dancing in our heads, I told him, "Sir, if you really want to know where we'd like to go next, it is back to Alaska."
With his full support and with God's working this time in less mysterious and more miraculous ways (let's just say there was a long list of more qualified volunteers for this job), 2009 saw us "on the road again"--on the ALCAN highway, that is. With apologies for a slight word change in the refrain of today's hymn, we sang, "On our way rejoicing, as we North-ward move; hearken to our praises, O blest God of love." Amen!
Lord God, help us to know in each step our journeys, surprising or not, your hand is leading us and giving us cause to be on our way rejoicing at the new ventures you hold in store for us. Amen.

God Pause for Friday, 26 May 2017 - The Luther Seminary in Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States - Scripture:
John 17:1-11
John 17:1 After Yeshua had said these things, he looked up toward heaven and said, “Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, so that the Son may glorify you — 2 just as you gave him authority over all mankind, so that he might give eternal life to all those whom you have given him. 3 And eternal life is this: to know you, the one true God, and him whom you sent, Yeshua the Messiah.
4 “I glorified you on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. 5 Now, Father, glorify me alongside yourself. Give me the same glory I had with you before the world existed.
6 “I made your name known to the people you gave me out of the world. They were yours, you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7 Now they know that everything you have given me is from you, 8 because the words you gave me I have given to them, and they have received them. They have really come to know that I came from you, and they have come to trust that you sent me.
9 “I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given to me, because they are yours. 10 Indeed, all I have is yours, and all you have is mine, and in them I have been glorified. 11 Now I am no longer in the world. They are in the world, but I am coming to you. Holy Father, guard them by the power of your name, which you have given to me, so that they may be one, just as we are.

-------The year 2005 delivered the first blessed silver lining from a tough three years "out of our element" in Alabama. Having made a good impression on enough of the "right" people, this time I was asked, "Where would you like to go next?" A "career-first" guy would have said, "D.C., or one of the Big bases around the country," since that would have been the next, logical step up the ladder. But for me, it had never been "full speed ahead and career first!" Not years before--while practicing law in Rice Lake, Wis.--and certainly not now. With my wife Paula's prayer echoing in my ears ("Thank you, Jesus, that we don't have to say, 'D.C., please'!!"), I replied, "We would really like to go to Malmstrom AFB in Great Falls, Montana." And since there wasn't a long line of volunteers for Malmstrom, off we went to big sky country.
Good and gracious God, wherever we may roam--wherever we may wander--keep us secure in the knowledge that this same Jesus whom you glorified and gave authority over all people, this same Jesus who gives eternal life, this same Jesus who prayed for his first disciples as only the true high priest could pray--even this day Jesus prays for each one of us, "Holy Father, protect them, so that together with all disciples they may be one, even as we are one." Amen.

John 17:
1 After Jesus had spoken these words, he looked up to heaven and said, "Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son so that the Son may glorify you,
2 since you have given him authority over all people, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him.
3 And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
4 I glorified you on earth by finishing the work that you gave me to do.
5 So now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had in your presence before the world existed.
6 "I have made your name known to those whom you gave me from the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word.
7 Now they know that everything you have given me is from you;
8 for the words that you gave to me I have given to them, and they have received them and know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me.
9 I am asking on their behalf; I am not asking on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those whom you gave me, because they are yours.
10 All mine are yours, and yours are mine; and I have been glorified in them.
11 And now I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one, as we are one.
