Pastor Penny Ellwood's eNote for Friday, 16 June 2017 - The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs in Blue Springs, Missouri, United States

From Diane Enlow:  Director of Children's MinistryFriday, June 16, 2017

Good morning,

Pastor Penny is out of town this week helping her son and his family move back to KC.  I know they are thrilled to have them close so they can soak up every moment with their new grand baby.  With her being out, she asked me to give you an update on KiDSCOR and all the summer happenings!
I know my family is really feeling the stress of a summer schedule with 3 kids this week. By the end of the week, we will have had a total of 8 baseball games between Mason and Reese!  Good thing we are a baseball loving family.  I will say it is difficult to find the time to worship when our schedules are so demanding.  I have to remind myself that it is very important to teach my children priorities and that we need to put God first in our lives even when our schedules seem otherwise.  If you are a parent of kids in KiDSCOR and you have found it difficult to worship
on Sunday mornings, please download the Parent Cue App so you can watch the kids sermon video throughout the week when you have a moment to breathe.  There are also activities and discussion prompts for car time, playtime and meal time.  Don't forget that you can catch the sermon online as well.  However, I always enjoy seeing your kids smiling faces in KiDSCOR whenever possible!
This is going to be a busy week with Popsicles in the Park continuing
on Wednesday night at Baumgardner Park and our first MiniCamp.  So far, we have handed out over 80 popsicles to kids in the community and have had a lot of fun doing it! We will also have our first MiniCamp starting on Friday.  The theme is The Secret Life of Jesus.  We will be looking at a few parables and finding out what secrets Jesus was trying to tell us.  The kids will be the special agents and help us in our missions.  They will end with a water party in the backyard! Pray for good weather for us. Kids can sign up until Wednesday at 5:00.  The camp is free, but we are needing a few more volunteers to help lead the kids around from station to station.  Please email me if you are able to help Diane.Enlow@cor.org.  Tomorrow, June 17, is our Bless the School Faithwork. We hope to have a huge turnout to help spruce up our partner school, Philips at Attucks.  We want to let these teachers and students know just how much they matter to our community.  Sign up info is below. This Sunday we continue our sermon series Upside Down exploring more of the stories Jesus told.  This Sunday our Downtown pastor, Scott Chrostek will be sharing a message on the parables concerning “lost” things.  We’ll also have a special treat for all men in honor of Father’s day.  Don’t forget to send your pictures of Fathers (with or without kids of all ages) to Riley.Ledford@cor.org

In this 6-week study taught by Mark Maschger, Pastor Adam Hamilton examines Christianity and four major world religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam and Judaism. He wrestles with some of the tough questions people ask: Why are there so many different religions? How should Christians view other religions? How is God at work in other religions? What is the fate of those who earnestly pursue God through other religions? We’ll learn how these four religions began, their essential teachings, and ways in which they differ from and are similar to Christianity.  Book available at Guest Services for $7.  Register online now
