Reflecting God – Embrace Holy Living - WordAction - The Foundry Publishing House of Kansas City, Missouri, United States - The Global Church of the Nazarene for Wednesday, 25 October 2017 "The Fruit of the Light" by Duane Brush - Ephesians 5:1-10
Ephesians 5:1 So imitate God, as his dear children; 2 and live a life of love, just as also the Messiah loved us, indeed, on our behalf gave himself up as an offering, as a slaughtered sacrifice to God with a pleasing fragrance. 3 Among you there should not even be mentioned sexual immorality, or any kind of impurity, or greed; these are utterly inappropriate for God’s holy people. 4 Also out of place are obscenity and stupid talk or coarse language; instead, you should be giving thanks. 5 For of this you can be sure: every sexually immoral, impure or greedy person — that is, every idol-worshipper — has no share in the Kingdom of the Messiah and of God. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty talk; for it is because of these things that God’s judgment is coming on those who disobey him. 7 So don’t become partners with them!
8 For you used to be darkness; but now, united with the Lord, you are light. Live like children of light, 9 for the fruit of the light is in every kind of goodness, rightness and truth — 10 try to determine what will please the Lord.
-------
The word translated “fruit” in Ephesians 5:9 (karpos) means “that which originates or comes from something, an effect, or result” (Strong’s Concordance). It can have both a literal and a figurative meaning. It can refer to the fruit of tree, vines, field, flocks and herds, even children. It can also be used to refer to the “fruit,” or final result of, sin, which is death (Romans 7:5) or “the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:11). This is the “fruit of light” seen in those who formerly lived in spiritual darkness but now are “children of light” in the Lord.
This light manifests itself in “goodness, righteousness and truth.” “Goodness” relates to the quality of relationships the believer is to have with others. “Righteousness” relates to the quality of our relationships in the sight of God. And “truth” relates to the Christlike characteristic that opposes the deception and darkness of sin (John 1:14). It is to this that Christ has called us to be “the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14).

Hymn for Today:
"Stepping in the Light" by Eliza E. Hewitt
1. Trying to walk in the steps of the Savior,
Trying to follow our Savior and King;
Shaping our lives by His blessed example,
Happy, how happy, the songs that we bring.
Chorus: How beautiful to walk in the steps of the Savior,
Stepping in the light, stepping in the light;
How beautiful to walk in the steps of the Savior,
Led in paths of light.
2. Pressing more closely to Him who is leading,
When we are tempted to turn from the way;
Trusting the arm that is strong to defend us,
Happy, how happy, our praises each day.
Chorus: How beautiful to walk in the steps of the Savior,
Stepping in the light, stepping in the light;
How beautiful to walk in the steps of the Savior,
Led in paths of light.
3. Walking in footsteps of gentle forbearance,
Footsteps of faithfulness, mercy and love,
Looking to Him for the grace freely promised,
Happy, how happy, our journey above.
Chorus: How beautiful to walk in the steps of the Savior,
Stepping in the light, stepping in the light;
How beautiful to walk in the steps of the Savior,
Led in paths of light.
4. Trying to walk in the steps of the Savior,
Upward, still upward, we'll follow our Guide;
When we shall see Him, “the King in His beauty,”
Happy, how happy, our place at His side.
Chorus: How beautiful to walk in the steps of the Savior,
Stepping in the light, stepping in the light;
How beautiful to walk in the steps of the Savior,
Led in paths of light.
Thought for Today:
for you are all people who belong to the light, who belong to the day. We don’t belong to the night or to darkness,(1 Thessalonians 5:5}
Please pray:
That many people in Saint Martin will come to know Yeshua the Messiah and receive the fullness of the Ruach HaKodesh.
