The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown in Kansas City, Missouri, United States - Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, October 27, 2017
Greetings RezDowntowners,
I am so fired up today! It's Fall. It's Friday. It's a Fifth Weekend and it's the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. In addition to all of that, I finally made it onto the second floor of our new building (the concrete was poured earlier this week) and I am super excited about the fact that we are hosting a Fall-Festival-Halloween-Extravaganza this weekend! Things are happening and it is all coming together.
As I type this, Pastor Adam is in Germany preparing to preach and lead us live on location at the site where Martin Luther officially nailed the Ninety-Five Theses to the door 500 years ago. I look forward to having you join us this weekend in worship for a historic message from a special location. As a way of celebrating the occasion and the Halloween season, we invite all of the kids to come to church in their Halloween costumes for our 9 am and 10:45 am worship services. The skinny lot is reserved all morning for an awesome Trunk-or-Treat experience! The parking lot will be full of decorated trunks readied for our kiddos to visit and trick-or-treat. We'll have cider, donuts and coffee for everyone, as well as a photo booth for posing with friends and family as a way of making memories.
This weekend holds one of my favorite holidays in the church year, namely, All Hallow's Eve. All Hallow's Eve is a night to remember and honor all of the prolific Christian martyrs. Historically, services happened at night, outdoors, often times around a fire pit. As worship unfolded, people would tell the stories of faith heroes of the past, how they lived and ultimately how they died, sacrificing their all for the sake of the gospel. It was a night to remember our faith heroes, and as the smoke billowed we would remember that we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses. Let this weekend be a weekend remembering our faith heroes of the past and our personal heroes of the present!
I look forward to seeing you this weekend in worship and hope you have a happy Friday full of God's Peace.
Pastor Scott
