Pastor Penny Ellwood's Enote from the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs in Blue Springs, Missouri, United States
Friday, December 29, 2017
Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
We had another amazing Candlelight Christmas Eve hosting 800 people over our 4 worship services. Our children got us off to a great start with their Charlie Brown skit at 10:45 am. We didn’t know it would be such a perfect fit with Pastor Adam’s focus on the true meaning of Christmas! There were many first-time visitors who received a warm reception from our volunteers. I am grateful for those of you who shared your Christmas by serving all throughout the church as nursery workers, musicians, ushers, greeters, coffee hosts, mug deliverers and parking lot attendants.
We also finished up an amazing JOY is Serving season. You provided 75 Joy Boxes and many gifts for the Wendell Phillips Tiger Store, cleaning buckets for My Father’s House, linen kits for Independence LINC, gifts for ZOE groups and for our Haiti partner, not to mention serving a Christmas meal at Lazarus table and hosting the holiday parties at Wendell Phillips.
Thank you for serving, thank you for inviting friends and family, and thank you for making God’s light shine a little brighter from our corner of the world.
As we prepare to welcome in the new year on Sunday, I’ll be preaching the conclusion to our Rediscovering the Joy of Christmas series. We’ll follow Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem where he is dedicated to God and joyfully recognized, not once, but two times as the long awaited Messiah. There is something refreshing and exciting about beginning a new year together. A new year means new perspective, fresh hope and opportunities galore. Come join us this Sunday as we do a little reflecting and a little imagining for our future.
See you on Sunday!
Grace and peace,
Pastor Penny
