The United Methodist Church Prays in Nashville, Tennessee, United States for Sunday 31 December  2017 "The Seventh Day of Christmas"
"The Seventh Day of Christmas"
Sunday, DECEMBER 31, 2017
A prayer by Bishop Minerva Carcaño of the California-Nevada Annual Conference, leading the United Methodist Church in “Praying Our Way Forward” for the week of December 31, 2017 to January 6, 2018. To see the bishop’s video message and additional prayer support, visit the conference’s website.

The second phase of the "Praying Our Way Forward" initiative was launched New Year’s Day 2017 with 75 weeks of focused prayer for The United Methodist Church. The effort will begin January 1 in the North Carolina Conference, and wrap up in the West Angola Episcopal area in June 2018.
The aim of 'Praying Our Way Forward' is to:
  • ask and listen for God’s leadership at this critical time in the life of our church
  • in addition to participating in a designated week of prayer, individuals are invited to join the initiative by praying daily and fasting weekly for our church, mission and future
“Praying Our Way Forward” was created by the Council of Bishops as a part of their larger commitment to “lead the church in every part of the world in times of worship, study, discernment, confession and prayer for God’s guidance.” To achieve this mission, they invited The Upper Room to help engage every annual conference around the world. United Methodist Women, United Methodist Men and United Methodist Communications have recently joined the partnership.
Each annual conference will take one week to have intentional prayer for the mission of The United Methodist Church to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world and for the work of the Commission on a Way Forward, which began meeting in January.
The California-Nevada Annual Conference's week of prayer will be December 31, 2017 - January 6, 2018.

Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer of our lives, we give you thanks and praise for your goodness, your unwavering love, and your eternal faithfulness. In you, oh God, we find meaning and purpose for our living and hope for our future. Forgive us when we step away from you, intentionally or unaware. Allow your Holy Spirit to keep us close to you that we may not become lost on the journey of life, find ourselves alone facing the travails of human existence, or without the joy of our salvation in Christ Jesus.
We pray with grateful hearts for Jesus our Lord who was born into a world of struggle and sin so that it would know your love and catch the vision of a world transformed! As disciples of Jesus the Christ, we fervently pray that you would allow your Holy Spirit to fall upon The United Methodist Church. We are in need of the renewal of our spirit and your guidance for the days to come.
Banish our fear of what you are yet to have us be as your people. If our hearts be troubled, give us your word of assurance and peace that you are with us. When we cling to that which separates us from you and your will, and from those you call our brothers and sisters, help us to let go and open our hearts, our spirits, and our minds to your will in the confidence that your will is pure and perfect, light and love among us.
Guide your people called United Methodists and bless our Council of Bishops and the Commission on a Way Forward. Anoint your servant leaders called to lead your church and those who are serving sacrificially on the Commission on a Way Forward. Give these whom you have called for leadership in this time and space, strength and courage, wisdom and boldness, and above all, hearts of love and commitment to you as you beckon us to be your church, not for its sake, but for the sake of the world you love.
In all things and at all times, we shall praise your holy name and give you Thanks!
Amen.

Thanks to you, The Advance finished strong in 2017
Thank you for your year-end gift to The Advance. Your generosity — and the generosity of thousands of United Methodists giving alongside you — makes a great difference in the world.
Thanks to you, hope and healing are advancing in the name of Christ.
I hope you’ll find extra satisfaction in the fact that 100% of your gift went to the projects and/or supported the work of missionaries around the world.
This is good work that we get to be a part of. May God multiply your generosity in the lives of the people who are touched by The Advance, and in your life, too.
With blessings and thanks for your generosity,

Rev. Russell Pierce
