Special eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Kansas City, Missouri, United States
Merry Christmas RezDowntowners!
Wendy, Frederick and I have enjoyed a very relaxing couple of days together after what was another amazing Candlelight Christmas Eve. As a community, we hosted more than 1800 people over our 6 worship services, including our first-ever morning service on Christmas Eve! Every service was full to overflowing, and we hosted many first-time visitors. I am grateful for what God is doing through you at RezDowntown. At every service we had volunteers (57 total) sharing their Christmas by serving all throughout the church in KidsCOR and in worship, as musicians, ushers, greeters and Sunday School teachers. Before Christmas Eve, we had over 100 people who volunteered to clean and pray over the seats in the sanctuary, while others prepared each candle and stuffed each bulletin. We delivered more than 300 gifts to the students at Wendell Phillips, gave more than 70 bags full of toys to the Tiger Store, and delivered gifts to every child at the Healing House. It was an amazing season full of joy and I am grateful. Thank you for serving, thank you for inviting friends and family, and thank you responding to God’s call to let your light shine before others so they might see your good works and give glory to God in response.
As we draw nearer to the end of the year, I wanted to remind you that our offices are open today through Friday from 8:30 am to Noon. Our staff will be available at 1508 Grand should any needs arise. Also, for those of you who are looking to make year-end contributions to fulfill your 2017 Pledge, your Capital Campaign Commitment or for general year-end giving, you may drop by our offices to physically deliver those gifts by noon on Friday, or you may place your gifts in the offering plate during worship this weekend on Saturday and Sunday. If you are unable to make it to church this weekend you may also mail contributions to our Finance Office at 13720 Roe Ave, Leawood, KS 66224 with a postmark of Dec. 31, 2017 or earlier or donate online through Pushpay at cor.org/downtown/give no later than 11:59 pm CDT, Sunday, Dec. 31.
As we look ahead to the New Year, I’m excited to end 2017 by preaching live at Resurrection Downtown this weekend. I’ll speak about the rest of the Christmas Story and about what it looks like to follow Jesus by letting our light shine in the world around us! I’ll share some specifics about our building timeline, some new milestones and a vision for the future filled with hope! I hope you’ll join us as we ring in 2018!
Grace and Peace,
Scott
