Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
I'm sending this out a day early to remind you of our Holy Week and Easter plans happening over the next couple of days. Tonight at 6:30 pm is our Maundy Thursday service. During this service, we will remember Jesus' giving of the new commandment, "to love one another, as I have loved you" and following a simple soup supper we will share in holy communion together. After the meal we will move into Good Friday as we take part in a tenabrae service where we will remember the final moments of Jesus' life through the characters we've been exploring these last few weeks.
Before we can truly appreciate the joy of Easter we must go through Good Friday. Good Friday is when Christians commemorate the suffering and death of Jesus. I know it seems an oxymoron to call such a day "good" but Christ's unjust suffering became the instrument of our reconciliation, forgiveness, and salvation. On the cross God demonstrated our need for mercy, and his willingness to extend it as he laid down his life for his us. The cross becomes for us a sign of God's love and, in the light of the resurrection on Easter, a sign of victory over evil, sin, despair and death.
Last night I was moved by the scripture and songs for reflection even as we rehearsed. This will be a beautiful service that will prepare you to celebrate with joy on Easter morning. If you did not pick up a Good Friday Prayer Guide, I want to encourage you to pick one up at tonight's service and spend some time in prayer tomorrow thinking about Christ's sacrifice on your behalf and offering prayers for those all those who will join us for worship on Easter morning.
Easter Sunday we will offer three worship services at 7:30, 9:00 and 10:45 am. Pastor Adam will share the story of our final Witness at the Cross, Mary Magdalene, as we explore the power of hope and faith. Please invite someone to come with you who needs to hear the glorious message of Easter!
I'm excited to share this week with you and am praying for a full house at all three of our worship services. I hope you've already extended an invitation or are thinking about who you might invite this week to join us.
Here is the list and more details about what's coming up in the next couple of days and weeks:
Maundy Thursday Supper and Tenebrae Service Thursday, April 2nd at 6:30 pm. At this service, we remember the night Jesus shared the Last Supper with his disciples, washed their feet and gave the command to love one another as he entrusted them to continue living this way after he was gone. We'll share a meal ending with holy communion and then close the evening with a Tenabrae (meaning "darkness") service with meditations from witnesses of the final hours of Jesus' life. This is always a powerful evening. The children are encouraged to stay through the meal and communion and then the youngest may want to go back for childcare as the tone becomes more somber and the lights extinguish through the service.
Easter Worship Services We hope you will come worship with us this Easter as we celebrate the resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ. We welcome many visitors on Easter weekend - some who may be searching for a church home. To make room for them, we need our regular attenders to commit to sit close, park far and come early! Service times are 7:30, 9:00 and 10:45 am. There will not be KidsCOR on Easter but we will have nursery for our youngest and worship packets available for the kids in worship.
Covenant Bible Study creates a learning experience where scripture meets everyday experience. It builds trust in others as well as confidence in scripture. And it provides an exciting new opportunity to better understand God’s call, love and unexpected favor. This in-depth Bible study explores the unique relationship God chooses to have with us. The 24-week study is divided into three 8-week segments, each exploring a different aspect of Covenant life. The second session begins April 8, and focuses on how the community lives out their Covenant in faithful love and how it’s applied to actual relationships in everyday life. A full participant guide for the class is $50, which includes all three installments, or you may purchase an 8-wk session for $20. Scholarships available. Class meets Wednesdays, April 8 – May 27, 7-8:30 pm. Dinner available from 6:30-7 pm. Sign up at Guest Services or online here. ContactMike.Ash@cor.org for more information.
SevenDays - Make a Ripple, Change the World was created to spread a message of love and embracing diversity to honor the memories of Dr. William Corporon, Reat Underwood and Teresa LaManno, who were victims of a hate crime. Tuesday, April 7, begins a week of themed days encouraging acts of love, serving, connecting and more. You can follow our Facebook page for ways to participate. The culmination of the week is the Faith, Love & Walk, Monday, April 13. The peace walk begins at 5:45 pm at the Jewish Community Campus and concludes at Resurrection's Leawood Campus. Register online.
Prayer Course – Do we really know what it means to pray the Lord's Prayer? How can the prayer that Jesus taught enable us to have a richer prayer life? This six-week journey through the Lord's Prayer covers topics such as intercession, dealing with disappointment, learning to listen and spiritual warfare. Sessions include a meal, a short talk and discussion. Join us for this 6-week course meeting Wednesdays at 6:30 pm starting April 15. For more information and to register, visitrezbluesprings.org/alpha or contact Mike.Ash@cor.org.
Premarital Class-Thursdays, April 16 - May 14, 6:30 pm, Leawood B200 (also offered on weekends). Classes led by Rev. Glen Shoup for engaged or newly-married couples. This course is required to be married by a Resurrection pastor. Download required registration form online.
Our First "Mega" FaithWork – Meet at Resurrection Blue Springs for a morning of service and community building on Saturday, April 25. We’ll start off at 8 am with a pancake breakfast. Then at 9 am, we’ll send out teams to serve at various locations in the near area. More information will be coming about the service opportunities. We will have several on-site opportunities for kids to serve as well. All participants will receive a brand new, extra awesome #serve water bottle and a morning filled with fun and meaning. Children, students and adults of all ages are welcome and encouraged to attend. Sign up at Guest Services or rezbluesprings.org/faithwork.
Girls Night Out @ Genevieve's Mark your calendar for a Girl's Night Out filled with some serious laughter, sweet treats, shopping, and a special craft project at Genevieve's Home & Handmade in Blue Springs.
