Pastor Jason Gant for Friday, July 31, 2015  Weekly eNote from Pastor Jason Gant - The Resurrection United Methodist Church West in Olathe, Kansas, United States

Resurrection West,
I am writing you this morning from London (about six hours ahead in time). It has been an incredible pilgrimage this week as our group has joined people from every campus to explore the origins of Methodism and the life of John and Charles Wesley. We flew into Manchester, then traveled to York, Leeds, and Epworth where we toured John’s boyhood home and the church that both he and his father served, St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, We then traveled to Oxford retracing John’s education at Christchurch college (one of 38 colleges at Oxford and also where the Harry Potter movies were filmed).
Then off to London, visiting St. Paul’s Cathedral (where John Wesley worshiped after being kicked out of pulpits across the region). Then to Aldersgate Street (where John felt his heart strangely warmed by the Holy Spirit). We then headed West to the port city of Bristol (considered the birthplace of Methodism). It was here that John preached outdoors to thousands of miners. Tears would roll down their soot-covered faces as the Spirit moved through their hearts and minds. We continue today with more stops in London as the Methodist revival continued to grow and move across the country.
I have been struck by the courage of the early Methodists in the face of ridicule, criticism, and judgment. They never gave up in sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This Methodist movement continues to grow around the world today! You can see many pics I’ve posted on my facebook page here. If we are not connected on facebook, please reach and connect!
This Sunday Pastor Chris will continue the series “Resurrection at the Movies” with a look at the “Exotic Marigold Hotel” movies.I’ll also be speaking to you from London, via video, this Sunday in worship to share about the Revival study this fall!
There will also be a special Honduran display in the entry this Sunday, so please stop by and take a look at how you can support Resurrection in Honduras: Get involved! Visit the tables in the entry-way to find:
  • Information/sign-up for the January RezWest Honduras serve trip
  • Information on sponsoring a student to attend the Juan Wesley school
in Ciudad Espana
  • A display of special items and pictures from our RezWest Honduran
mission teams
  • Bags of fresh Honduran coffee for sale, proceeds support Methodist
mission efforts in Honduras
Also, this Sunday, we will be changing the 5pm KiDS COR Sunday School and worship routine so that KiDS COR check-in takes place in the lower level area at the beginning of service. There will no longer be a transition from worshipping with families and meeting their Sunday School leader at the back of the church. Christie will be standing at the front doors, greeting families and inviting them directly to the lower level.
