Dear Resurrection Family,
I’ve been in England this week with 14 Resurrection high school youth and college students, 11 seminary students and 50 of our members to retrace the steps of John Wesley and the beginning of Methodism. (I've been sharing some photos on Facebook this week - here's the link if you want to check it out.) These persons will be coming back to lead small groups,Sunday School classes and new groups in a study focused on the life, character and faith of a Methodist this fall. We’ve worshiped, studied, and stepped into history this week. The study of Revival: Faith as Wesley Lived It kicks off September 8 and our children, youth and adults will walk through this study together. Using video and pictures we’ll take you to the places we’ve been this last week. You can sign up for the study after worship this weekend, or go to cor.org/revival.
I’m excited about the sermon this weekend at Resurrection and look forward to joining you via our online worship. The sermon is about finding significance and joy in life. Our pastors will use some illustrations from this week’s featured movie, “The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” a critically acclaimed British comedy-drama. Invite someone to “check in” for this weekend of worship at Resurrection. We’ll be showing the movie in the Sanctuary on Saturday night. The dinner beforehand is sold out, but everyone is welcome to come see this film in the Sanctuary at 7:15 pm. The movie and popcorn are free. Next week we'll have a Family Movie Night and show McFarland, USA on Friday, August 7, at 6:30 pm in the Leawood Sanctuary.
If you are new to Resurrection, we have an event coming up called Discover Resurrection on Sunday, Aug. 9, 12:30 pm, in the Leawood Narthex. At this informal gathering a light lunch will be served and you will hear all about Resurrection and how to navigate all the wonderful opportunities here. You can register online.
As we begin preparing for a new school year, we are committed to meeting the needs of students in our six partner schools, and one of the ways we offer support is by providing supplemental food for students identified as at-risk for weekend hunger. Last school year Resurrection provided over 56,000 bags of food and as we head into a new school year,Backpacks for Hunger needs your help. You can learn more at Backpacks teams info tables this weekend or visit the website: www.cor.org/backpacks
Finally, I’d like to share an invitation with you. The Reverend Bruce L. Emmert has been appointed as our new Kansas City District Superintendent. A special worship service celebrating his appointment will be at 4 pm on Sunday, August 9 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 7740 Lackman Rd, Lenexa. Bruce will preach on John 15, “Are We More than Ornamental?” and Bishop Scott Jones will preside over communion.
Check out your campus enews for other opportunities coming up this week.
