Pastor Penny is in England with a group from Church of the Resurrection. They are exploring the life of John Wesley and getting to actually see where he lived and ministered. I’ve recently seen pictures on facebook and it looks like they are having an amazing time. We'll get to hear all about that when she returns and when we explore the Revival study in September.
My family and I are getting settled in our new home in Grain Valley. I want to thank all of you who have helped us in the move and brought us food. We are so grateful for you and our church family!
I wanted to remind everyone that the Jesus Apprentice study begins August 12. I’m looking forward to leading this and I hope you will consider joining this powerful four week study.
This Sunday we will change things up a little bit. I will bring the message as Penny will be getting back in the states later that evening. I will be using a few references to the movie The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and bringing you the story of Jesus the Good Shepherd.
I hope to see you Sunday either at 9:00 or 10:45.
In the meantime, take a look at all that's coming up below:
Back to School Supplies Drive The start of the school year can be expensive and purchasing school supplies may not fit into a family’s budget when they are struggling to provide for basic needs. Help area students start the year prepared for success by providing much-needed supplies for the Community Services League’s Back to School Fairs. Pick up a list of school supplies needed at Guest Services. If you don’t have time to shop, a gift of $25 made payable to Community Services League will ensure one student will start the year with all the supplies he or she needs. Please bring all suppllies or monetary donations to the collection barrel by Sunday, August 2.
Building Better Moms Diaper Collection Bringing home a new baby can be emotional and financially challenging. The diaper collection is a way to help lessen that stress a little and to bless new moms. A tote for diapers with a BBM label is located near KiDS COR on the collection shelves for you to place your diaper donations. Anything you are able to contribute will be greatly appreciated.
Willowcreek Global Leadership Summit – Resurrection will host this event at both our Blue Springs and Leawood campuses,Aug. 6-7. To learn more and to register, visit cor.org/willowcreek.
Family Movie Night Sunday, August 9 at 6:30 pm. Bring your kids and friends to see the family-friendly (PG) McFarland, USA in the Sanctuary. Complimentary popcorn and snacks will be served!
Jesus Apprentice Wednesdays, Aug. 12 – Sept. 2, 6:30 pm When Jesus taught the disciples, his message was simple and clear. In this illuminating 4 week study, author Jeff Kirby sweeps aside the clutter of our daily lives and takes us to the heart of Jesus’ message. Explore Christian belief through Christian action, following in the footsteps of our Lord. Mike Ash will lead this book study. Study materials available at Guest Services for $8. Contact Mike.Ash@cor.org for details or sign up online here.
Revival-Faith as Wesley Lived It John Wesley—preacher, professor, founder of the Methodist denomination in England in the 1700s. But what does that mean for us in 2015? Search for a deeper understanding of Wesley’s legacy by studying Pastor Adam’s book, Revival, with other members of our Resurrection family. This 6-week study begins Thursday, Sept. 17, 6:30 pm. You may purchase a book for $8 at Guest Services. Register online here. If you’d like to lead a small group, contactMike.Ash@cor.org.
Couch to 5K Training for Sacred Steps Run -If you are interested in training for the 10th Annual Sacred Steps 5k Run/Walk (Saturday, September 26, Leawood Campus) using the Couch to 5k training program, please contact Angela Rock at rocklawllc@gmail.com or at 816-728-7776. All proceeds go directly to our missions initiatives in Africa for medical equipment, education, and community health. Learn more and sign up at cor.org/sacredsteps. Training starts the beginning of August, at Lake Remembrance.
Christmas in October – The Church of the Resurrection mobilizes hundreds of volunteers for Christmas in October each year to help improve the living conditions of elderly, disabled and veteran homeowners in Kansas City. Lend your hands and hearts to this worthwhile community effort Saturday, October 10, and make a tangible difference for someone in need. If you can use a paint brush, rake, caulk gun, putty knife, hammer, wrench, broom, etc. – we’ve got a job for you! No special skills needed; volunteers must be age 14 or older. House Captains and Co-Captains are also needed to help oversee a team of volunteers. To learn more and to sign up, visit cor.org/christmasinoctober.
Rez Blue Springs Headed to the Holy Land in Fall of 2016! - I am excited to share that we will be offering a trip to the Holy land, November 14-23 of 2016. This will be the trip of a lifetime and I hope you can join Bill and I as we walk where Jesus walked. We will retrace His life, teaching's, death, and resurrection on a journey of both historical learning and spiritual power! We will be taking this journey along with Pastor Jason Grant, and members from our West campus. Brochures are available now at Guest Services.
May you know God’s peace and grace this week!
