[Caregiving Listserve] from the National Alliance for Caregiving
The National Alliance for Caregiving and MetLife's 2011 study, "Caregiving Costs to Working Caregivers: Double Jeopardy for Baby Boomers Caring for Their Parents", was cited in an article in Time magazine: "Inside the Next Social Security Crisis".
The article, available in this week's print edition and online for subscribers, looks at why women are bearing the majority of the retirement crunch. Caregiving has a significant impact on women's ability to save for retirement, and also on Social Security benefits after retirement. The Alliance's research found that on average, lost wages, pensions, and Social Security benefits for women leaving the workforce for caregiving total $324,044.
