Living Reminders of Hope for Sunday, 21 May 2017 - The United Methodist Church in Nashville, Tennessee, United States

SUNDAY, MAY 21, 2017

A prayer by Bishop Laurie Haller of the Iowa Annual Conference, leading the United Methodist Church in “Praying Our Way Forward” for the week of May 21-27, 2017.
Merciful and abundant God, we thank you for the privilege we have to be your called-out disciples, charged with sharing your unconditional love and hope to the ends of the earth. May we boldly claim our Wesleyan heritage to strengthen and deepen our faith in ways that are not only life-giving but change hearts and make a difference in our world. We ask you to bless every United Methodist across the globe with the courage and grace to be living reminders of the hope we have through you.
As the Commission on a Way Forward continues its work, we surround them with our prayers. During this uncertain time in the life of our denomination, may the Commission members know that they have been chosen for such a time as this. As they listen to one another carefully and discern prayerfully, may they experience both discomfort and comfort, as your Holy Spirit challenges, prods, and leads them and us into a future with hope.
“Walk with me, I will walk with you,
and build the land that God has planned where love shines through.
And when you share your faith with me and work for life made new,
The witness of your faithfulness calls me to walk with you.” [John S. Rice]
