The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs of blue Springs, Missouri, United States "Pastor Penny's Enote" for Friday, 29 September 2017

Friday, September 29, 2017
Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
I’m writing from our Leawood campus where 1800 pastors and church leaders from around the country are gathered for Leadership Institute. This event is held by Resurrection every year and comes out of our passion to renew churches. Wednesday I had the opportunity to share, along with our Downtown and West campus pastors, the story of our start in Blue Springs. I was reminded again of just how fast time flies and how much we’ve accomplished in the last seven years working together to change lives and transform our community. I’m even more excited today than when we started, as we have so many dreams yet to fulfill and I sense God at work in a mighty way amongst us.
This Sunday Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Cleaver III will be offering our message in worship. Rev. Cleaver is lead pastor at St. James UMC. We’ve been partnering with St. James to discover together how we might build bridges across the racial divide in Kansas City. Then at 7 pm on our Leawood campus Rev. Cleaver and Pastor Adam will be joined by Rabbi Arthur Nemitoff for a panel discussion on how our community can stand together against racism, religious persecution, hate and violence. Kansas City Star columnist Mary Sanchez will also be there to provide some background on hate groups in our area. If you can’t make it in person, watch it on our live stream.
This Sunday in worship we’ll also be continuing the Methodist tradition of giving Bibles to all our 3rd grade students. Like baptism, this is an important milestone in the lives of our children and as their church family we are excited to help them continue to develop a deeper relationship with God through regular Bible reading. If you have a third grader and haven’t already notified Diane Enlow, please let her know by Sept. 30 so we can have your child’s Bible ready on Sunday.
We have another big day of serving coming up on Saturday, Oct. 14th so I want to make sure you’ve marked your calendars. Rez Blue Springs is sponsoring a Christmas in October house and providing volunteers for Drumm Farm’s City Slicker’s Hoedown, a fundraiser for the Children’s Center, Variety and Water4, three great charitable organizations. You’ll find more details on both of these events and others below.
Have a great day!
Pastor Penny
