Reflecting God – Embrace Holy Living - WordAction - The Foundry Publishing House of Kansas City, Missouri, United States - The Global Church of the Nazarene for Saturday, 23 December 2017 "Immanuel—Praise Him!" by William R. Carlson - Psalm 147:1-11
Psalm 147:1 Halleluyah!
How good it is to sing praises to our God!
How sweet, how fitting to praise him!
2 Adonai is rebuilding Yerushalayim,
gathering the dispersed of Isra’el.
3 He heals the brokenhearted
and binds up their wounds.
4 He determines how many stars there are
and calls them all by name.
5 Our Lord is great, his power is vast,
his wisdom beyond all telling.
6 Adonai sustains the humble
but brings the wicked down to the ground.
7 Sing to Adonai with thanks,
sing praises on the lyre to our God.
8 He veils the sky with clouds;
he provides the earth with rain;
he makes grass grow on the hills;
9 he gives food to the animals,
even to the young ravens when they cry.
10 He takes no delight in the strength of a horse,
no pleasure in a runner’s speed.
11 Adonai takes pleasure in those who fear him,
in those who wait for his grace.

Psalm 147:1 says it well: “How good it is to sing praises to our God.” We give thanks for those with gifts of music, the composers, singers, and instrumentalists; they are all part of the praise team. With their help, we can give expression to our amazing blessings, like when we sing, “Joy to the world, the Lord has come!”
It is amazing that an all-powerful God genuinely cares for the brokenhearted (v. 3). This is the reality of Immanuel, “God with us.” We even learn from our Scripture that a powerful military force doesn’t impress Him, but those who hope in His unfailing love delight Him.
You may be part of a group that sings praise to the Lord during the Christmas season. Sometimes you may be found enthusiastically singing words of praise, perhaps even standing with hands raised. Other times you will sing quietly, pondering the wonderful gift of Immanuel.
In your worship, delight in Him in today. Join with the Psalmist, who declares our praise time, "How good!" Discover for yourself, “How good it is to sing praises to our God.”

Hymn for Today: "Joyful Joyful We Adore You" by Linda Lee Johnson copyright 1985 by Lillenas Publishing Company All rights reserved.
1. Joyful joyful we adore You
God of glory Lord of light
Angels lifting praise before You
Sing throughout this holy night
In a manger lies a baby
Child of Mary Son of God
Voices joined in joyful chorus
Praise You for Your gift of love
2. All Your works declare Your glory
All creation joins to sing
Praise resounds as earth rejoices
In the birth of Christ the King
Shepherds kneel before the Infant
Trumpets sound and anthems raise
As with joy our hearts are lifted
Joined in wonder love and praise
