A prayer by Bishop Robert Schnase of the Rio Texas Annual Conference, leading The United Methodist Church in “Praying Our Way Forward” for the week of December 17-23, 2017.
This week we pray the Advent Psalm 126 from the United Methodist Hymnal (1989). If you are praying in a small group or family setting, please pray responsively and include the Response at the bottom of this post.
1 When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion,
we were like those who dream.
2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter,
and our tongue with shouts of joy;(Response)
then they said among the nations,
“The Lord has done great things for them.”
3 The Lord has done great things for us;
we are glad. (Response)
4 Restore our fortunes, 0 Lord,
like the watercourses of the Negeb!
5 May those who sow in tears
reap with shouts of joy!
6 Those who go forth weeping,
bearing the seed for sowing,
shall come home with shouts of joy,
carrying their sheaves. (Response)
