"Where are you?"
During that day's cool evening breeze, they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden; and the man and his wife hid themselves from the LORD God in the middle of the garden's trees. The LORD God called to the man and said to him, "Where are you?" (Genesis 3:8-9, CEB)
This passage immediately follows when Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate fruit from the tree God had clearly told them not to. So, like what often happens when we've done something wrong or hurt someone, Adam and Eve hid themselves from their Creator in shame.
As I reflected on this passage, I was reminded of this hymn lyric:
"Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love"
Thanks be to God that no matter how often we might hide ourselves or wander from God, God will call after us with infinite love and amazing grace and patiently wait for our return.
