Pastor Jason Gant for Friday, July 24, 2015 Weekly eNote from Pastor Jason - Friday, 24 July 2015 from The Resurrection UNited Methodist Church West in Olathe, Kansas

Resurrection West,
I want to begin by saying thank you to the 52 of you who completed a KiDS COR serve card to help raise a generation of disciples last Sunday! If you missed out on signing up to serve - email Christie Walker at christie.walker@cor.org. This Sunday our youth pastor, Rick Webb, will be preaching as we begin a 3-week series entitled - Resurrection at the Movies. Rick will be preaching through the context of the Disney Pixar smash hit – Inside Out. I saw this movie a few weeks ago and it is so much more than a kid’s movie. It explores the depths of our emotions and the way we respond when experiencing loss, fear, anger, and joy. I know you’ll be inspired and challenged by Rick’s message. This will also be a “Family Worship Sunday”, meaning that we invite our children to be in worship with us (childcare for 4 years and under will be available at every worship service). We will have kid’s packets and also invite kids forward for a special children’s sermon by our new Director of Children’s Ministries, Christie Walker, at each worship service.Coming up on August 2nd Pastor Chris will be preaching through the Second Exotic Marigold Hotel movie and August 9th I will be preaching through McFarland USA.
Tomorrow I depart for England with a group from West to retrace the history and heritage of United Methodism through the life and times of John Wesley. This will no doubt be an incredible pilgrimage as we explore the faith and courage taken in the early days of Methodism. We welcome your prayers as we join groups from each of our four campuses, along with Pastor Adam, on this journey. I look forward to sharing more in next week’s enote from England, as well as in the upcoming Revival 6-week study kicking which kicks off in September. Make plans now to join us for a meal and study as we seek a Revival in our own hearts and minds as Christ’s followers this fall. We will be using Pastor Adam’s Revival small group study and our personal learning’s from this pilgrimage. If you are currently in a small group, you might consider having your group come together for these six weeks. All are welcome for this enlightening study and more details to come in the next few weeks. For more information and to register, contact Dave.Robertson@cor.org.
Plan to attend the MegaMission Event at Ridgeview Elementary! Saturday, August 1st 9am – 1:30pm. There are still school supply bags left around our altar that need to be filled so we can assure every child at Ridgeview Elementary starts school with their necessary items:
  • School Supplies Drive for Ridgeview Elementary – Bless our partner school by filling a shopping bag with school supplies for a student at Ridgeview. There are still a few bags left to be filled. Return them to the church by Thursday, July 30, for delivery to Ridgeview as part of the MEGA MISSION event. Thank you for making a positive difference in the lives of children in this very tangible way!
  • MEGA MISSION Ridgeview Elementary – Saturday, Aug. 1. Meet at Resurrection West at 9 am for project selection, instructions, donut holes, coffee and prayer. We will then pack up supplies and head over to Ridgeview Elementary to help beautify the grounds, prepare the classrooms for the start of the new school year and create welcome crafts for the teachers and welcome notes for the children. Please bring yard tools, rakes, shovels and wheelbarrows if you have them. We will also host a Celebration Cookout Luncheon for the Ridgeview Community as well, complete with water play and fun for all ages! Wear your MEGA MISSION t-shirts (extras will be available) and help bless the school! All activities and clean-up should be finished by 1:30 pm. Finally, I know many of us are traveling this summer, but when we are back home let's make every effort to be in worship together. Its so important for us to connect together as we worship God. It's in this gathering that the Spirit of God fills us and sends us out each week as His disciples to love and serve others. This spiritual exercise reminds us who we are and whose we are. I'm reminded of Hebrews 10:23-25 that says,
"Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching."
May the faithfulness of God move through us in worship, in service, and in study each week! I look forward to returning with new learnings of our United Methodist faith tradition. Join me in praying for a Revival within our hearts, our minds, and our church as we live out the commands of Christ!
