I'M BACK
Linda and I had a wonderful visit with family in Ohio last week.
While the ladies had a Girl's Day Out, the guys grinded tree stumps with a rented stump grinder from Home Depot. Here's a link to the video, which only you folks and family have access to: 2 Millers and 1 1/2 Ecks Visit Ohio.
For perspective on the nature of vacations, you might compare this trip to the one my son and his wife took to Bora Bora a few months ago, if you didn't see it earlier.

God has a son. Who knew?
SUNDAYCome Sunday sermon time, we'll already be halfway through our 10-week study in the Gospel of John. I'm loving hearing the entire book read out loud. I'm picking up stuff I had either forgotten or never knew in the first place. I'll be leading the discussion on Sunday.
I've heard people compliment the series by saying it's not as bad as they expected.
I know it sounded like a bad idea...read the entire Gospel of John out loud. But I was banking on the Holy Spirit to come through with some inspiration.
7.26. Steve Miller God has a Son. Who knew?
John chapters 9-10. Read both chapters aloud in class.
Features: Jesus heals man born blind, “Good Shepherd,” claims to be the Son of God.
Here are a few discussion questions I've come up with so far.
John 9:1-2. The disciples presumed that the man born blind got what he deserved. Where do you think a judgment call like that comes from?
9:38. When the formerly blind man said he believed that Jesus was the Son of Man and worshipped him, what do you think was going on there? Did the man think Jesus was a God or a prophet or the Messiah? How would you place your bet?
9:41. Compare to John 15:22. Put it in your own words. Here's my first pass at it: “If you didn’t know anything about God or spiritual stuff, you wouldn’t be held accountable for sinning. God’s not going to punish you for doing something you didn’t know was wrong. But since you keep saying you know about God and spiritual stuff, and in fact you do know, you’re in trouble with God.”
10:11. The good shepherd puts his sheep above himself. He would give his life for his sheep. In the lives of people you know, when have you seen someone put another ahead of himself or herself? They sacrificed for another.
10:16. Who do you think are the “other sheep” Jesus was talking about “from another flock”? Scholars guess, so you can, too.
What do you think contributed to the confusion of the Jewish leaders regarding what Jesus said about his relationship to God (the two are one)? What made it hard for them to swallow what he was serving up to them? Do you think Jews today would have the same problem with Jesus if they saw him do the miracles that the people in the first century saw him do?

RezChatters in England
I know of three from our class who are headed to England on the Wesleyan heritage trip with Pastor Adam, Pastor Jason, and others who wanted to get the heck out of Kansas in July.
Dave and Lisa Rock along with Gary Schlotzhauer are among the 75 souls headed to cooler weather along with fish and chips.
Given that this is a church event and not a RezChat Amtrak excursion, they will not be allowed to indulge in the demon rum, wine, or any other alcoholic beverage.
We wish them happy trails, calm innards, and open minds.
All of which can be accommodated, when necessary, with prescription medication or a nice, long smoke in Colorado.
Amish hat bought in a store in Charm, Ohio where the Amish buy their hats. This picture is set against the backdrop of future tree stumps.
