Shawnee Church of the Nazarene of Shawnee, Kansas, United States for Friday, 15 September 2017 "Pastor Cara's Weekly Email"

Mission Emphasis Month
Shawnee Church of the Nazarene of Shawnee, Kansas, United States for Friday, 15 September 2017 "Pastor Cara's Weekly Email"
“Without prayer there will be no renewal of the church, and without a renewal of the church, there is very little hope for the world.” (Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury)
Prayer… it is vitally important for our personal relationship with God and as a part of the life of the church. I have heard it said it is impossible to have an individual relationship with God. Let me explain: it is not possible to have a relationship with God that does not also grow as we live life in community with others. It is certainly possible to have a personal relationship with God as we spend time reading Scripture, praying, journaling, etc… but we are not to be isolated from other believers. One early church theological and martyr, Cyprian, put it this way: “You cannot have God for your Father unless you have the Church for your Mother.” Relationship with God and being a part of a church community go hand in hand and prayer is at the heart of both.
May we be people that prioritize prayer in our personal time with God and in our shared time together.
Maybe it’s at the dinner table with family or friends…
Maybe it’s in church during the prayer time…
Maybe it's with friends at school…
Maybe it’s before bed with your kids…
Maybe it’s at breakfast with your spouse…
Maybe it’s by yourself in the car as you drive...
Maybe it’s in the few quiet moments you have as you lay your head down at night and pray over the day you just had and anticipate the day ahead…
No matter where, may we be people of prayer. May we be people of prayer so that Shawnee Church of the Nazarene will be renewed and the world will have hope!
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Cara
