"Taking a day off" by Stephen M. Miller
SHE'S GOT THE MOVES. Elise dances for Grandpa Steve, when the extended family took a day off of working on Labor Day. She's moving to the music of a song from Grandpa's generation: Jimmie Rodgers singing "Oh oh, I'm falling in love again." It produced a gold record that hit #7 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1958. The families of my daughter and son came over to help my wife and I enjoy some trout that my son and I caught on a church fly-fishing retreat about a week ago. My son-in-laws parents came, too.
The fish was wonderful.
But nothing beats getting together with the family, if we’re lucky enough to have a family we want to get together with.
Which I have.
It was a day to obey what King Solomon is said to have written.
“People should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God” (Ecclesiastes 3:13 NLT).
It was not a day to write a blog article.Back at you on Thursday.
