Greetings RezDowntowners,
What an amazing Friday it is! Wendy and I just walked by the construction site and were amazed by our continuing progress. It looks like they are gravelling the whole site in advance of the concrete slab. It was pretty awesome to watch. Be sure to check out the live webcam at build.cor.org/downtown if you are interested in seeing it for yourself. In the next several weeks we'll see the building start to take shape with structural steel, a roof, and several other noticeable features. However, all of it has been preceeded by your prayers, hopes and dreams. Thank you!
It was so special to be able to witness the cumulative prayers get mixed into what will the be the foundation of our new sanctuary. I love this image of preparing the way for future generations with intentional prayer and then to think about all of the people who will one day walk through the doors of our sanctuary to meet God in worship is so humbling. By your prayers, through your generosity and because of your willingness to say 'Yes' to God's call we have the privilege and honor of being a part of something that hasn't happened for really long time here in Kansas City. Sometimes I feel like we're standing on the precipice of one of God's miracles. If you weren't able to watch our brief prayer service on Tuesday, you can watch a condensed version of what happened here.
We have a big weekend ahead at RezDT. Not only do we have the kickoff to our Women's Breakfast Series on Saturday morning, but we are continuing our series on Simon Peter and we'll also be inviting people to make a difference through mission and service this weekend. I hope you'll invite friends, share our construction update and join us in worship as we continue building Christian community in the heart of the city.
Happy Friday, God's Peace and Go Chiefs,
Pastor Scott
In the meantime, be sure to read below in order to get better connected to the life of our church:
Upcoming Events & Activities
Here are a few things happening soon in the life of the church.Women’s Breakfast Series Kickoff
Saturday, September 9 | 9am | 1522 McGee
The school year has started and the Women's Breakfast Series is gearing back up again. Please join us as we continue the conversation started at the Women’s Evening as we hear from Kelly Sisney who will be interviewed by Shannon Endicott. It’s sure to be filled with lots of laughter and more tips on helping our outer face match our inner face. For more information, please contact Shannon.Endicott@cor.org.
Faithwork
Saturday September 16 | 9am | 1522 McGee
Join us for this introduction to the faith community through service work with RezDT! Faithworkis specifically designed for you to invite non-and nominally religious people in your life into a non-threatening service environment. Our faith and experience is that this service will lead them into a journey of deeply knowing, loving and serving God. No fees, no commitments, no pressure to do anything beyond the invitation and showing up for a morning of service! RezDT and God will take care of the rest! When you arrive, you’ll be greeted with coffee and donuts, you’ll learn about and pick a community partner to serve with for a couple hours, then you’ll go discover how God is at work in Kansas City through our partnership. Growing in community before and after our service is just as important as the service itself so we hope you’ll join us for lunch to share about the experiences you have had and discover the next steps in your faith journey. Details about lunch will be shared before you set out on your Faithwork for the day. Please contactPatrick.Mclaughlin@cor.org with any questions, or visit cor.org/downtown/faithwork
New Facilities Volunteer Team Forming!
With a growing congregation comes a growing need for access to space, and with that comes additional wear and tear on our beloved buildings. We need a group of people who would like to serve on our newly forming Facilities Volunteer Team. The many different ways that you can serve in this capacity range from hosting groups and classes to aiding in providing upkeep to the buildings and grounds. Don’t be shy, if this is something that you might be interested in doing or have questions, please email Kenny.DeCoursey@cor.org.
