Take a quick look at what's coming up:
Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
Did you know that 4.5 million Americans will need a blood transfusion each year? Someone needs blood every 2 seconds. 43,000 pints is the amount of donated blood used each day in the U.S. and Canada. Unfortunately, only 37% of the U.S. population is eligible to donate blood and less than 10% do annually. During the summer months when people are taking advantage of the weather and outdoor fun, the demand for blood is greater and the supply is less. We'd like to do our part to help supplement this gap. This Thursday from 3:30 - 7:00 pm we'll be hosting a Community Blood Center summer blood drive in our Fellowship Hall. We are trying to fill 28 appointments so we can collect 20 pints of blood. This will help approximately 40 hospital patients. We need you to sign up online or Sunday after worship at guest services to help with this great cause.
There are 4 steps to donating blood: medical history, mini-physical, donation and snacks. The actual blood donation takes less than 15 minutes. The entire process – from the time you sign in to the time you leave – takes about an hour. Healthy adults who are at least 17 years old (16 with parental permission), and at least 110 pounds may donate. There is information below about how to sign up.
This Sunday we begin a new 3-week series entitled - Resurrection at the Movies. Glen Shoup, our Executive Pastor of Worship will be preaching on the Disney Pixar smash hit – Inside Out. Glen is a great preacher and I'm excited for you hear him this week. This movie explores the depths of our emotions and the way we respond when experiencing loss, fear, anger, and joy. It has something for every age and great content to explore through the lens of faith. If you haven't seen the movie yet, don't worry the message will be relevant for all. Coming up on August 2nd Mike Ash will be preaching on the Second Exotic Marigold Hotel movie and August 9th I will be preaching on our final movie McFarland USA. We'll follow up that night with a Family Movie Night in our sanctuary at 6:30 pm.
Tomorrow I depart for England with a group from all four of our Resurrection campuses, along with Pastor Adam, to retrace the history and heritage of United Methodism through the life and times of John Wesley. This will be a great chance to explore the faith and courage that began a revival that swept across England and into the new colonies of the U.S. We welcome your prayers for our journey and I look forward to sharing more about the trip in the upcoming Revival studies, which will kick off in September. You'll be hearing more about these studies later.
Lastly, Mike Ash and his family are moving into their new home today. If you've got a couple of hours this afternoon, I know they'd appreciate the help. It was such a blessing to us when we moved here. Contact him at mike.ash@cor.org.
In the meantime, take a look at all that's coming up below:
Summer Blood Drive We will be holding a Community Blood Drive Thursday, July 30, 3:30-7 pm in the Fellowship Hall. All eligible donors 17 and up are encouraged to participate. Be sure to stay hydrated and take your dietary iron! Please commit to taking an hour of your time to help with the increased summer demand for donations. Book your appointment today atsavealifenow.org, enter Sponsor Code: CORBS. For additional details, contact Betty Witt at 816-582-7809 orbettywitt@pobox.com.
Back to School Supplies Drive The start of the school year can be expensive and purchasing school supplies may not fit into a family’s budget when they are struggling to provide for basic needs. Help area students start the year prepared for success by providing much-needed supplies for the Community Services League’s Back to School Fairs. Pick up a list of school supplies needed at Guest Services. If you don’t have time to shop, a gift of $25 made payable to Community Services League will ensure one student will start the year with all the supplies he or she needs. Please bring all suppllies or monetary donations to the collection barrel by Sunday, August 2.
Building Better Moms Diaper Collection Bringing home a new baby can be emotional and financially challenging. The diaper collection is a way to help lessen that stress a little and to bless new moms. A tote for diapers with a BBM label is located near KiDS COR on the collection shelves for you to place your diaper donations. Anything you are able to contribute will be greatly appreciated.
